I am planning to make a trip with my family to Acadia national park during the Thanksgiving weekend in November. It will be a surprise gift for my family and having just graduated, my budget isn't too high, but I want to do the best I can for them. I am guessing that many of you have been to Acadia and could share some of your experience.
We will be 3 adult couples (me/wife, my parents and my brother/wife) and are therefore looking for at least a 3-bedroom cottage. Since it is off-season there due to the winter, I had budgeted $500 for renting the cottage for 3 nights in Bar Harbor or surrounding areas. However, most cottages on homeaway, vrbo etc are at least $1000 for the week and most don't rent for less than a week - many don't rent at all after October. [more inside]

While looking for a week-long rental in Portland, Maine, I'm wondering what locals can tell me about the different neighborhoods that keep popping up - Eastern and Western Promenade areas and downtown. [more inside]

Going' To A Cabin In Maine For A Week -Filter: So it looks like I'm spending a week in Palermo, ME at a friend's cabin by the lake. What did you wish you did during your rustic cabin adventure? What did you wish you brought? Tips for surviving or enjoying? Fun stuff to see in the area or places or food that can't be missed? Fun things to do with your SO along? We'll have a bike, a car, running water and some limited internet access. [more inside]

My wife and I want to go somewhere in Maine in July for our anniversary. It'd ideally be relaxing, out of the way, something that feels like... well, Maine. And lobsters! And the coast.
Any tips? We're in our early 30s, if that matters.

I'll be spending next week with my wife in the midcoast region of Maine. (Just outside of Lewiston-Auburn.) She has family there, so she has spent plenty of time at all of the touristy things around. What off-the-beaten-path things can I suggest for us, within about an hour of Lewiston?
