What should I do about a package that USPS says was delivered but I haven't received? [more inside]
Victim: Mailbox. Cause of death: Decapitation. Prime suspect: USPS. What now? [more inside]
A package was shipped to me by an online retailer. The USPS is having a lot of trouble delivering said package to me. I'm not sure why, and now they seem to not know where my package is. Anyone know what I can do to suss out the location of my parcel? [more inside]
I shipped a pair of large, moderately valuable packages to Italy last night, and I accidentally sent to the wrong address. The two addresses are about 5 hours apart from each other in Italy. I realized my mistake this morning. I went in to USPS and they said the packages were already out, but I could call USPS and try to get them sent back to me. I called USPS and they were busy and took my number and said they'd call me back. [more inside]
In the US, what is my specific legal duty when I receive postal (USPS) mail that was not intended for me? Ethics are another question; I'm just curious about the legal requirements. [more inside]
I'm interested in applying to work for the US Postal Service as a mail carrier. I'd like to hear more about what the job is actually like, from people who've done it or who know someone who has. Does anybody here have any experience to share? [more inside]
I need to mail (via USPS) a manila envelope to someone important in lower Manhattan. And I need to know for sure when it will arrive, so I can email him same-day notice of its imminent arrival, so he watches for it and it doesn't sink into a pile of other mailings. If I drop it at a post office in his zip code (10007) the previous afternoon, am I assured he'll get it the next day? Is there any other way (without making it look like I'm trying too hard) to be sure of delivery date? I'm not in a rush....I just need to know for sure.
Due to some unforeseen expenses, it looks like I may need to liquidate some of my larger collections (dolls, toys, etc). Theoretically I'd like to sell them en masse (i.e. 20 dolls total in one lot) rather than individually. These aren't small or sturdy items. Is there a standard practice for shipping that many semi-fragile items (all bubble wrapped) at once to a buyer? Can you do multiple shipments through eBay, like how Amazon sometimes splits orders up? Any advice would be appreciated.
I'm moving with a relatively small amount of stuff (probably 15-20 boxes, either no furniture or only small pieces) across the US (DC to Seattle) next month. I've done this before via USPS, but I'm wondering if there are other options I haven't thought of. Would like to keep this under $1,000. [more inside]
Our USPS mail carrier appears to have some problem with us, and it's fucking up our mail delivery in weird ways. What are my options? [more inside]
I have a few hundred dollars worth of 2 cent USPS stamps, how can I convert them into money? The are about 5 years old, in the original packages, shrink-wrapped as new.
I received a package today sent via Media Mail in USPS. Inside contained only a book on cannibalism in Africa. This is totally creepy. I have no idea why this was sent to me. What now? Can I find out more information about the sender? [more inside]
I ordered a textbook on Amazon from a non-Prime seller (none of the Prime sellers had it in stock) and specified "expedited" shipping. The seller provided a USPS tracking number, but the estimated shipping time is longer than I had expected. Is there any way to ensure that this package was shipped via Priority Mail?
I received a sealed, empty, business-size envelope in the mail from a non-Googleable entity called "Buy3rzParadise" claiming to be located in the Galleria in Atlanta. It had a USPS First-Class Package sticker deliberately stuck onto it (with a tracking number, which says it was sent from Oakland) that says the "package" weighs 4oz. This seems like Amazon/ebay fraud, but I haven't ordered anything from Amazon/ebay that hasn't arrived. I've also only lived at this mailing address for a few months. [more inside]
I'm proposing to my fiancée this week at Burning Man, and my jeweler (a friend of mine) wasn't able to finish the ring before I left. He's going to have it finished by Sunday night, and suggested that we investigate options for mailing it. Is this doable? We've both done some research, and it seems like there *are* some options... I quit Amazon because all my packages ship via USPS, either directly or FedEx SmartPost. Now I'm looking for online retailers who let me choose UPS or FedEx. Are there any? Also want to avoid SmartPost and its UPS equivalent. (Some merchants tell you a shipment will use FedEx/UPS but you find out after commiting the order that USPS handles the last mile. Right now I'm waiting on a SmartPost package turned over to USPS 150 miles from me and it will take 3 days to get it delivered from there.)
I want to rent a mailbox for business purposes-- mostly for the "street address" rather than mail handling capabilities. I've rented via UPS in the past, but the price has gone up since I last rented, and USPS now allows street addresses in the same way UPS does (MyUSPSAddress St, #myPOBoxNumber), and also has Real Mail Notification texts. And is way cheaper. No brainer, right? Except... [more inside]
We moved into our house five years ago. The previous owners had some bad money stuff going on. [more inside]
Will FedEx or other package delivery services ever deliver a two day package in one day? If the capacity is there and there are other packages going in less time (one day) on the same route, would they ever fill that capacity by delivering early? [more inside]
My partner ordered an item through the US Postal Service. He received an immediate text when it was delivered yesterday, but when he stepped outside to get it there was nothing there. [more inside]
USPS has lost four packages of mine in the last three months without a trace. Each was handed to my mail carrier and never scanned into the system. Insurance claims denied because it was never scanned into the system, carrier supervisor unhelpful. Looking for advice on how to proceed. [more inside]
The US Postal service has an address standardization/correction service that many companies use. When we put our condo address in as 123A Main Street, it changes it to "123 MAIN ST APT A". Since we don't live in an apartment, is there any way to change that with the USPS so it would be "123 MAIN ST UNIT A" or "123A MAIN ST"?
I moved to the Bay Area a year ago and have no complaints about the weather thus far. On the other hand I really miss the Chicago breweries that aren't available in stores out here. I'd love to get my hands on some of their new releases, particularly their stouts and porters. Anyone know if it's legal and possible to ship beer to CA for personal consumption and how to go about it?
I thought I mailed a letter to via USPS to Switzerland. I just checked the receipt, and it turns out it went to Swaziland instead. [more inside]
So, I have a friend who lives in Mexicali, Mexico, and he's having a dickens of a time getting mail to actually be delivered to the US. What can he do to make that work better? [more inside]
I have a very important document that I need ship on Friday evening(I can't ship it earlier) from California and it must arrive by Saturday in Ohio. Of the three major shipping services(USP, FedEx, USPS) which one will be best opinion? Timing is critical and money is less important issue.
Something strange happened to me at Christmas and I'm curious if the green can shed more light onto it. I bought something online from a trusted retailer that I've bought from frequently. This was my third purchase this fall to the same address. It was due to be delivered on the 23rd via a combination of UPS and USPS but never arrived. When I followed up a week or so later, the trusted retailer described it as "irretrievably lost" and overnighted replacement items. [more inside]
I sent some friends in Sicily a gift via USPS Priority Mail International. I am trying to reach someone responsible for local/last leg delivery in Sicily, but who would that be? [more inside]
Is it possible to get monthly or yearly data on the volume of incoming and outgoing mail from each US post office? [more inside]
I had to rush a print job while preparing internet orders for my web store and my "NetStamps" postage printed less than perfectly. Can I use them stamps or change them without my shipment failing? [more inside]
My home address has the exact same address as a location in my same zip code. Google's default result for the search is the other address. Can I get this fixed? How? [more inside]
I am looking for a large outdoor box to receive packages securely. [more inside]
Have you sent mail to Finland from the U.S. with Priority Mail International? Has that ever taken longer than 10 business days? (No customs value involved, in my case - just a standard flat envelope of papers with no value.) [more inside]
I'm moving soon (UK Home Office and God willing) from the US to England. I will be there for roughly 3 years, give or take, and am hoping that I can have a portion of my substantial amount of books there with me. Previous suggestions on shipping indicate USPS M-bags as the go-to choice, but USPS no longer offers anything but air service on media bags, pushing the cost to around $175 for 44 lbs. This is more than I want to spend. Ideas? [more inside]
I'm not talking about the old mail jeeps, I'm talking about the Grumman LLV. [more inside]
What is the best book on the history of sending mail, news, orders and other information by ship?
Can someone familiar with post office procedures tell me if this is a messed-up as I think it is? One day, two independent packages expected that day were, according to the USPS tracking page, scanned as both "Notice Left (No Authorized Recipient Available)" and "Delivered". All four scans had the same timestamp, 2:16 pm on the day they were due. Someone was present at that time, no delivery attempt was in fact made. [more inside]
My local post office happened to lose a piece of (certified) mail that was important to me- so I was busy chasing them around for the past month to no avail. However, today the green "return receipt" card finally arrived back on my doorstep. But unsigned and the (online) tracking still doesn't indicate it was actually delivered. Do they get sent back unsigned? Did it just fall off and get mailed here? Help solve my mail mystery! [more inside]
Somehow the USPS has lost my passport, which was mailed from NYC to Boston. What are my next steps? [more inside]
I'm selling comics on ebay and have no idea what to put for shipping. Media mail seems not to allow comics, flat rate box seems good for 25+, but the padded envelopes seem like overkill for small batches, I'm just not sure what to put. [more inside]
I had a return to Amazon. I printed the label they provided and put it on the envelope. I didn't realize it was a UPS label and not USPS until last night when I went to check the status of my return. I had accidentally put the envelope in a USPS mailbox on Monday last week, April 1. What is going to happen my package? [more inside]
After my PO Box was broken into, I have been searching for a USPS location that has security cameras aimed at the boxes (NOT the space where the employees work), and after speaking to 5 post offices and even chatting with the local postal inspector, I'm beginning to doubt that this even exists. [more inside]
I ordered a package last winter and just realized that I never received it. I was out of town for a bit and traveling so it slipped my mind and I just assumed my partner had brought it in. Now, over six months later, I contacted the company that shipped it to me, and they were able to track down the USPS routing number, but USPS' website is not helping. How can I track this down? [more inside]
I read somewhere that the United States Postal Service does not receive any federal or state funds from taxes, that they do all of their own accounting. [more inside]
I heard through the grapevine that an old school friend has fallen on hard times (long term unemployed and the sole care provider for a seriously ill mother, car died, on the verge of losing their home, etc), so I dropped a check in the mail for her last week. I don't really know them anymore, but I can afford it and good karma and all that. But today I realized that, like an idiot, I used a 44 cent stamp and the current first-class rate is up to 47 cents. My parents sent me some china and glassware through USPS (they insured the package) and some of it broke. It is old. What should I do? [more inside]
I am in the US, and I would like to send letters to both the UK and Canada and include a self addressed stamped envelope. As of January 27, International Reply Coupons are apparently no longer being sold by the USPS . What are my options? [more inside]
If I mail invitations addressed with white ink gel pen on dark red paper, will they make it to their destinations? [more inside]
Some folks I know have found themselves in San Francisco without a place to stay, but I need to send them some stuff. Does anyone know which Post Office(s) in SF proper accept mail for general delivery?
I had to submit a change of address at the last minute, and I'm very reluctant go back to my old address to get any mail that doesn't get forwarded. I have some questions about the mechanics of mail forwarding. [more inside]
