I was born in the US, lived in Canada for ten years, and moved back to the States last year. While I was in Canada, I built up a solid credit rating- I had two credit cards, an unsecured line of credit with low interest (7%) and overdraft protection on my checking account up to $3,500. At one point when I was underemployed I built up some credit card debt, but I payed it off. Last year, when I moved back to the US for grad school, I got into a bad pattern of leaning on my credit cards and low-interest line of credit to pay for moving and start up expenses. This June, the world financial collapse coincided with one of my own- I was employed super part time, was making around $750 a month and was struggling to pay rent and buy $20 worth of groceries a week. I just couldn't pay my debt, and I paid very minimally, then not at all. I know I probably should have called the bank and tried to work something out, but what can I say- I panicked and froze. Currently, my total debt load is $14,000 on the line of credit, $3,700 on the overdraft and $1,400 on my Visa. [more inside]

I work for the US division of my company; there are also divisions in Canada and the UK. Recently we laid off a few people, and were told that the work they did would be handled by the Canadian division. But we work with large video files (up to 10GB) so transferring them electronically is reasonably time consuming and often results in transfer failures. So why would my company do this? Why is it desirable for them to lay off people in the US and "send" the work to Canada? [more inside]

Is this illegal? I'm a Canadian living in the US legally but not allowed to work. I run an online business based out of Canada (use a Canadian address for all payments, bank account etc...). I suppose I'm working for a Canadian company (my own) but living in the US. Additionally, and I haven't done this yet, would importing revenues from the business to use for living expenses affect the legality?

I'm a Canadian living in the US with an outstanding Canadian student loan. Getting paid in US dollars was working in my favour with regards to making monthly payments on the loan, but not so much anymore with the Canadian dollar on the rise. Is it predicted that the Canadian will stay up and keep rising in value, or this a temporary blip? I'm wondering if I should bite the bullet and pay my loans off now, in one go, or ride it out for a few months to see if the US dollar manages to pick itself back up. I realise that there is no one, scientific answer for this question, but educated guesses are appreciated.

Many American eBayers won't ship outside of the USA. I find this extremely silly and annoying but I guess that's besides the point. My question is: is there a service I can utilize that will allow me to buy items and give an American address and then someone at that address will then forward the package to me in Canada?
