Unexpected inheritance of $100,000 - $150,000 complicated by move from the US to the UK in the next year. My wife and I have never dealt with financial matters beyond credit cards and a moderate paycheck before, who do we talk to in Los Angeles/Southern California to make sure we don't screw this up?

I want to deposit a UK check (written for £) into my bank account. Will this be a problem? Will they hold it for a ridiculous period of time? I assume they'll charge me a conversion fee, but how much? (I searched my bank's website and found nothing, thus I ask Mefi.)

Hi. I live in the UK and have a 3 month old baby boy. I have just started saving into a child trust fund but am trying to figure out if this is the best way to save some money for his future. I would like to generate a lump of cash for him when he is 16-18 (for Uni or whatever needs paying for then), would prefer to do it ethically, and am not sure what the best value way of doing this is. More details available if needed but gotta go ... he's waking up! Thanks in advance!!!

My British employer overpaid me back in June 2008 to the tune of £1k. I pointed this out at the time, but never heard from anyone. Now it's December, and they want the money back.
However, I've heard that I can contest this, on the grounds that the employer made a mistake, and that it's illegal to force employees to rectify companies' mistakes.
Is this true? And what legalese can I quote? :)

The UK based company I have been working for is going under (I am in the US... I was hired as their Los Angeles based Art Director last November.) They never got the US corporation together so I was always payed as a contractor, month to month, for which I had to invoice them, always with the promise that as soon as they got the US corporation established I would get my pay as a salary with benefits like health insurance.

Like many UK people, I earn some money in dollars: Adsense and Cafepress mostly. Whilst the exchange rate is poor, it would make a sense to leave this money in the US and only collect, as and when the rate changes significantly in my favour. Any one got any experience with a UK based person setting up US dollar savings account with good interest?

UKSharesFilter: Some of my relatives have had a small selection of the shares in an inherited portfolio disappear over time from their online tracker, so my question is what has happened to the following stocks: CHB.L; GAA.L; MFBUEUGI.L and MFBUTRU.L, and should they have received any notification, documents or even cheques, (and what can be done about finding out more)?
(I should clarify that they still have the certificates and haven't sold, traded or otherwise physically disposed of them, it's the listing themselves that now come up as 'No Such Symbol' on the internet listing of the portfolio).
