So, my awesome great aunt passed away, and she left me a bequest! It's coming this week. Snowflake: She was Canadian, I am an American citizen resident in the UK. It's a Canadian cheque, how long will it take to clear and will I have to pay US or UK tax on it, or both?

I'll be a student in the UK for at least one year. While there are many threads dedicated to unanimously deciding the process is a long, painstakingly near-impossible one, I've yet to see someone recommend a specific type of account and/or bank. (Especially since newer regulations have been implemented). If anyone knows of a FREE way of opening a UK bank account without an established residency, please share details. Thanks.

UK banking query: I bank at the Co-operative Bank, which has just one branch in my town, miles from where i live & work. Can I i) pay cash in at any other bank [eg HSBC, Barclays, etc] via the counter and deposit in my account; ii) does this cost money? iii) does it take time to 'clear'?

Europeans using PayPal to bill customers in the U.S. or U.K., can you help me? I want to bill for services using PayPal, and then transfer the money to my Greek bank account. Greece uses the Euro. I'd like to bill in dollars for my U.S. clients, but I'm a PayPal newbie as far as receiving funds is concerned. Is there something that I should know about fees or ... um ... anything, really. UK Credit Filter - We have bad credit, and now our bank have decided that they want to close my accounts. So in order to be paid, and pay bills...I have to find a new current account. My wife and I know that we can fix our problems with money (and have been doing well for 3 months) - but we cannot seem to find a bank that will open a current account for us.
So for UK askMe people - do you know of a current account that will AT LEAST give us the benefit of the doubt?
