UC Irvine School of Law?

I've been accepted to the inaugural class of the UC Irvine School of Law. What's your opinion of UCI and how should I weigh going there over other top-25 law schools? I applied law school and have to decide where to give my seat deposit by April 15th. One of the schools I've been accepted to is the UC Irvine School of Law; I'd be in its inaugural class. I'm deciding between attending Irvine and a few other top-25 schools.

Attending a yet-to-be accredited law school which doesn't have an alumni network to help with the job search once I graduate, etc., seems like a very risky move. UCI by all accounts seems poised to be an excellent law school. Although it won't open its doors till the fall, it's already been ranked 10th in the nation in terms of Faculty Scholarly Impact and, as an incentive to draw top students, is giving everyone in the inaugural class a free ride. When they're ranked by US News (next year, I guess), they expect, they say, to be rated in the top 20 law schools.

The other schools I'm considering (currently Emory and Fordham are at the top of my list) aren't offering me any money.

I know there are a lot of lawyers and law school students around here. I've very curious to hear opinions about UCI. What would you do in my situation?

How to get a student ID without being a student.

[UCBerkeley Airbears filter] I'm currently a student at Berkeley City College, but I have two classes each week on the UCB campus. I want wifi access... how?. I went to the student services area, and they tried to be helpful and were ready to give me a CalNet/AirBears account, but without me being able to provide any sort of UC Berkeley student ID number, there was nothing they could do for me.

There are temporary access passes, but they require being setup by the head of a dept., but because the class I'm taking is a community college class that just happens to be on the Cal campus, I wouldn't even being to know how to figure that out.

So is there any person I could talk to, or any way to get a student ID number for Cal while I'm not a student there?

Who loses first when UC budets are cut by Arnold?

How are the proposed UC budget cuts here(Article) and here(PDF) likely to affect campus employees and administrative staff (non academics, non students)? Somewhere between 32 and 60 million dollars will be cut from campus budgets. What excess fat is trimmed first? Historically, what kinds of employees are first to lose their jobs? How does this budget cut compare to past UC funding cuts and is there any historical data to show where the money will be trimmed?

How much of this budget cut will be absorbed easily without cutting personnel? Is there enough cushion? How does IT fare in these kinds of situations?

Is a job in Education sheltered from the market?

I have just been offered a staff position at a large University of California campus. Given that my current job is with a small (employees<15) consulting company in the technology field, and given the current national (and global) economic situation; is a UC job more likely to be stable in the next 5 years when compared to one in a small tech company? Also, what's it like to work at a UC? Is the UC system subsidized by the government enough at the state and federal level to make it as secure as a government job?
Will a big CA educational institution weather the inevitable financial storm comparatively better than other sectors?
What is it like to work for a big UC school?
The benefits are good, but is working for an academic institution as political and as slow moving as people say?
What have you experienced as a UC employee?

Where to stay in Davis?

I'll be near UC Davis on Saturday, and I'd like to stay overnight. Any recommendations for nice places to stay while there? I've 8 year old twin boys, and my wife. Looking on the slightly fancy side, hopefully with a pool. Room service a bonus.
