Help me hate travel less

I particularly hate flying. I'm also not good at being in strange places, but the flying is my big concern at the moment. I have to fly in a few days and even though this is a trip for fun, that I expect to enjoy (in between the flights), I am filled with dread when I think about it. [more inside]

Where to stay and what to do in Munich

I'm in Munich for three days this summer (around the last of week of June) and was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for hostels? I'd prefer a social atmosphere but nothing too party-oriented. Also, what are some must-see and must-do things for a short visit to Munich?

What's a nature-y hotel that's a short flight from Los Angeles?

Trying to take a short trip with two toddlers where they can get knee-deep in nature - forests, lakes, whatever. Ideally it's a nice, high-end hotel that's family friendly, a short flight (we'd like to go beyond the road trip radius) from LA. Any suggestions? Maybe somewhere outside of Portland?

Little known American city perfect for a lone woman of colour tourist?

I would like to visit a city in the US that is not commonly thought of as a vacation destination, but still has a lot to offer a tourist. However, as a woman of colour that does not drive and will be travelling alone, I would like a safe and friendly choice. I would like ideas for places with a lot of history and fine dining, which are easy to travel by foot/ public transportation, and friendly towards different looking people. Confusingly expensive hotels in San Francisco

So after a lifetime of wanting to visit the US, I've been invited to a conference in Pasadena in September, and so am tagging on a week of holiday at the end. I really want to go to San Francisco and explore the surrounding area, however looking at hotels, ones that are in guides or previous AskMeFi posts as being around $100-150 per night are coming up as $300-400 per night, so 4-5 nights of stay is around $1000. When to buy tickets for a Christmas trip to Puerto Rico?

Planning to spend a week around Christmas in Puerto Rico with my wife and two kids. Have been watching airfare from DC - has been pretty consistent at about $350 RT. Exact days are flexible, so flying in and out on Wednesday to take advantage of cheaper mid-week fares is fine. Do I pull the trigger and buy now, or do I have a reasonable chance to save significant dollars by waiting?

Self care for the work traveller

I travel a lot for work - mostly short domestic trips. Mostly I enjoy it but sometimes the exhaustion and disruption to my usual routine becomes overwhelming. My fridge has nothing but condiments in it, my laundry pile is sky high, all my usual habits around diet, exercise and sleep are upended. I am tired of talking and tired of meeting new people and oh god, tired of sitting in cramped plane seats. Phone in Guatemala?

I'm going to Guatamala for a few weeks, in two weeks! I'll be at language school in Xela. For various reasons, I'd very much like to have a cell phone with podcast-playing capability while I'm there; I also use a meditation podcast when I fly and would very much like to have that available to me while I'm getting there and leaving. How should I go about making this happen? I currently have an iPhone with Verizon within the US, would be fine getting something new for the few weeks I'm there. Money is not limitless, but this is a pretty big deal for me so I can be flexible.

Drugged and robbed in Tokyo, what should I do?

I recently visited Tokyo. While I was there, I found myself in the Kabuki-cho region near Shinjuku. I hadn't checked the state department advisories before I left, but if I had I would have found there have been warnings about this going back years. I was drugged by a tout, who then led me around town in a dissociative state all night, and in the morning I found that my credit card had charges going up to the limit, all in $1k or $2k increments. I called my card company and told them the transactions were fraudulent, and also told the embassy and the Shinjuku police. Is there anything more I should do? I'd also like to reconstruct the night - can I get detailed records from my credit card company? [more inside]

Need help with core beliefs and travel anxiety

I'm going to put the TL:DR up here. I have lots of limiting core beliefs involving my worth. Meeting new people causes me great anxiety due to these beliefs, which include not being allowed to have any needs, especially those that might inconvenience, irritate, or anger the other person. I also have panic disorder. I've met someone online that I want to meet in person but it would involve a drive of several hours. Travel = panic = debilitating and anxiety-inducing physical symptoms.
