Seeking helpful tax professional in Durham/Chapel Hill?

It's time to hire help for tax stuff. Any recommendations (including self-recommendations, if you want) for someone around Durham-Chapel Hill, NC? Need help with: working in multiple states (NYC, RTP), lots of travel & business expenses (probably including deductions we don't know about) and maybe other stuff. [more inside]

Travel alarm clock that also will charge a USB device

DoesThisExistFilter: Is there such a thing as a small, loud travel alarm clock that also will charge a device/provide current through a USB port? The user needs a louder alarm than provided by his cell phone (he often sleeps with ear plugs), and it would be nice to charge the phone at the same time. [more inside]

Personal experiences with boarding cats?

Personal experiences with boarding cats? Adopters of our foster cat are planning to do this, and I don't really have a way around it; just wondering how worried I should be and whether I should insist on visitation or something. Awesome cat photos inside. [more inside]

ugh. I'm going to be homeless in Paris.

I need to find a place to stay in Paris, starting tomorrow morning. I'm starting to panic. Oh yeah, and I have a migraine, haven't had any food on my stomach since yesterday, and generally feel awful. I feel pretty stupid. [more inside]

Help me fly the vegan skies

Vegan airport/airline dining - connect and lunch in Dallas (DFO) or Chicago (ORD)? Somewhere else? How long to allow for a connection to assure we can eat at the restaurant you recommend? We're traveling from Raleigh-Durham to San Francisco and it's looking kind of grim for in-flight meals; it's > 7 hours overall travel time but broken into two segments; best advice for not-having-to-pack-lunch? Help me give a (restaurant?) gift to someone in Pietrasanta

Please help me be a gift-giving genius. I think I want to arrange a lovely but not-too-expensive lunch or dinner for my friend in Pietrasanta, Italy, where he is now living. I've never been there, know nothing about the town, and don't speak Italian. [more inside]

If it doesn't kill me, will it make me stronger or weaker

Best way, other than walking a lot (too time-consuming), to prepare for walking a lot, in a city, carrying a substantial bag? A recent walking-intensive two-week trip nearly killed my poor feet. I don't have a walking-intensive life most of the time. Should I try specific conditioning? Or would that make it worse, "using up" the mileage I have left on my feet? Should I just resign myself to babying my feet when traveling? [more inside]

Not planning to try this, just curious

Has anyone taken ice through airport security? It's a solid, of course, but I wonder (idly) what the reaction would be.

how much to allow for emergency vet costs?

How much money should we allow for cat veterinary emergencies? This is for our cat sitter or vet to spend to fix up our cat, without contacting us, if we're incommunicado. We're putting together a letter of consent for the cat sitter and vet. [more inside]
