I'm travelling in the US (Los Angeles) from Canada. What are my phone options? i'm sick of paying my local company's roaming charges. Can I buy a phone in LA that'll have full data/text/voice options for a month? If so, what'll it cost me? Can I just buy a chip for my iPhone for that month with no contract? (And if so, what's the best way to unlock it). Also, is there a way to forward SMS/text messages sent to my Toronto number? [more inside]
People always tell me they found cheap flights by not buying direct from the airlines... however, when I search all the sites they recommend and the ones I find via google, they're always about the same price as buying direct from Air Canada. Sometimes AC is cheaper! The same thing happened last year. What am I not understanding here? [more inside]
Suppose I wanted drive around North America for 6 or 8 months and live out of the vehicle ... [more inside]
Walking in Venice/Santa Monica... so I'm in CA for another week. I'm a big walker... where should I walk? What are the great shops for music, books, film, sights, eats, drinks? Any great concerts, readings, plays I shouldn't miss? Or if there's something a single bus ride will get me to that you can recommend, please do so with specific boarding instructions. Thanks! Should I go to Barranco, Lima, Peru? If so, what should I do there at the end of April? [more inside]
I really want to get away from my house to finish up some screenplays for a May 1 deadline. So where can a not-so-rich person go for the last two weeks of April that will allow much peace and quiet while being both safe and warm enough to wander around in short sleeves night and day. Suppose a cost of around $1500--the cheaper the better--including return airfare to Toronto. Note that I like seclusion but I also don't drive so it needs to be someplace close to the necessities.
A friend's off to NYC this weekend (Fri-Tues). I said I'd ask if anyone knows of anything that's going on that's specific for this weekend. She lived in the city before so knows the regular stuff but if there's anything someone in NY should definitely check out this weekend, please let me know. She's staying in Harlem but is eager to trek.
