I finally saved up enough flyer miles for a flight to Europe and I am super excited since I've never been. I'm planning on a week in London and then a week in Paris, advice for things to do while I'm there would be much appreciated.

As per my previous question, my wife is attending a course in London in June so we are moving from Australia for three months. We were thinking somewhere central initially, but the prices are nuts, so we will probably pick somewhere on the tube line (red or black line). Any suggestions for the seasoned London mefites in this thread that would suit our family of four (me, wife and two preschool boys). For reference, our rent here is equivalent to about 250 - 300 pound a week, but no idea how that compares. my wife would also be okay with up to a 1 hr commute, especially if we live at the start of the line and she can get a seat. Thanks all.

The recently-retired senior generation of my family is traveling from US to London in October. They are arriving separately and splitting up for a couple of different side trips, and want to be able to stay in touch by cell phone. What are the easiest, cheapest options for cell phones that they can purchase ahead of time?

I will be travelling to the UK this May/June and will be in London on June 3. I have heard that for the
Jubilee Pageant on the Thames, some pubs along the river are accepting reservations for tables.
It seems like a great way to spend the day - does anyone have any specific recommendations for pubs along the Thames that I might contact?

I've just booked an international trip with a 3/4-day layover on the way home. Great, I think, I can spend some time in the city, get a cheap hotel, see a few friends for dinner and then get some sleep and a shower before my trip home - easy! Problem: after booking the trip, I realize I will be in London during the Olympics, and hotel prices have accordingly skyrocketed. I am on a grad student budget. Help me find a decent place to stay - ideally not in a shared room - that won't kill my budget?

On a scale of 1-10, with 1 being "very safe" and with going-to-11 being "the most crazy," how insane is it to try to get into London from Heathrow to do some light sightseeing on my way back home to the US. (I've read the previous questions, but needed some clarification about some of the issues!)

Often I want to go from Southampton UK to Islington. The public transportation system in London is awesome! There must be a better way than the white-knuckle drive through the city I currently do...
Given that I want to do the first leg of the trip via car, I expect there is somewhere in SW London I can park and take public transportation, and get to Islington relatively quickly (~1 hour) and cheaply. I've played around with Google maps, and there are a bajillion options.... anyone know one that is near optimal? Ideally with free/cheap parking, and outside the congestion fee zone.

I am flying into London Stansted later this week. I'll be meeting a friend who works in Central London, and then driving with them to South Yorkshire. We'd like to meet somewhere in far North London/Beds/Herts that is as least somewhat on the way from Stansted to the M1, probably somewhere off the M25, and ideally a relatively small, uncomplicated town (I haven't driven manual or on the left for a couple of years and this is going to be during rush hour!). It should also be easy to get to on the train from Kings Cross or Euston. I don't know the area, so I'm going by Google Maps at the moment. Our current plan is Potters Bar station. Any better ideas?

My friend & housemate has a big birthday weekend planned (London, Thursday – Monday). There's an itinerary, filled with lots of amazing things (spa days, aquarium, shows, etc.), but in the event that some of these places aren't wheelchair accessible, we need some back up events planned. What are some great places to go/see/party in London that are definitely wheelchair accessible, relatively easy to get to, and would be able to host a party of 3-8 people at the last minute with minimal hassle all around?

I will be in London on business in late April, and would like to see at least one play or musical while I'm there. Can you please recommend a good (or critically-acclaimed) play or musical, or a website where I can find recommendations? I'll be there alone and will be looking for individual tickets - is it likely I'll be able to get singles for sold-out shows on the day of?
Thanks for your help!

A friend, a student, is stuck in London over Christmas: no family or close friends to hang out with over the day itself etc. What could he do, by himself, to make it all warm and fuzzy. Anything from travel (if that becomes possible in the next few days) to stuff to do around London that he wouldn't otherwise get around to.
