I'm visiting my brother, studying abroad in Rome, at the end of November. I was planning on staying with him, but he just told me that wouldn't be possible. So I'll need a hostel or cheap hotel. It'll be for nine days, so I'd really rather not break the bank. His apartment is in the Trestevere area, so hopefully I can stay around there. I'm not opposed to hostels or other "outside the box" ideas, as long as they're clean and relatively safe. [more inside]
We're in the beginning stages of planning a vacation to Toronto later this year. So far, all the hotels I have looked at online have been surprisingly expensive. Does anyone have suggestions for clean, safe, private (not hostels) hotels or B&Bs located either conveniently to interesting parts of the city (for tourists), or close (safe 5-10 min. walk) to public transportation to attractions?
While I am at it, while we've done some research on our own, ideas for not-to-be-missed sights, museums, bookstores, or other attractions (for a middle aged, bookish, art-museum frequenting, ethnic food loving, but only moderately-fit couple) appreciated. Thanks!
Will be traveling to NY this summer for work for a week.
Need to spend days on upper east side (5th and 104th). Nights I am free. Like to be able to walk to restaurants, windows browsing, perhaps some jazz.
Any advice on what neighborhoods to look for hotels? I realize with the transit options perhaps this question doesn't make much sense, but I would rather not spend a lot of time or money in transit.
And if you wouldn't mind suggesting some favorite gems of neighborhood restaurants, places that might be worth the trouble to get to?
My wife and I are planning a two-week trip to Peru in November, and though the big pieces of the trip are in place, we need some advice on how to slot things in. Also, lodging help. [more inside]
I'm somewhat last-minute booking a trip to NOLA, and have never been before, so I'm floundering a bit in sorting through my hotel decisions. There's tons of advice on where to eat, but very little on where to sleep! Which we do plan to do at least once. ;)
So dear MeFites, where should the boy and I park ourselves between beignets? [more inside]
We're headed to Brussels in March, and we're looking at flight prices. We know it's a bit early, but we're trying to spot any deals and grab them. We saw a flight to Brussels with a layover in Porto, Portugal, and the one on way home is 20+ hours (landing around 4pm and taking off at 11:30am the next day). Could we get a good stay in Porto, Portugal out of those 20 hours? What's there to do? Will we get by without knowing the language? [more inside]
Asking for a friend: Older American couple is visiting London for the first time. They're having a hard time figuring out travel agencies / DIY internet bookings. Can you make some recommendations? [more inside]
4 stars, 2 bills: The hotel is the destination.
A friend of mine has a hotel fetish. Given that the cost of a room also depends on the city and taxes, is there a "fancy" hotel or B&B in the Northeast with a remarkable amount of bang for buck?
Goal is <200/night. [more inside]
A friend and I will be taking a road trip between New York City and Ann Arbor via the Great Lakes this summer. We're mostly planning to camp, and do things on the cheap. But he's offered to splurge for a hotel for a night on one condition: the hotel be a garish Liberace-styled rococo nightmare. [more inside]
I've never worked in any hospitality industry, so I'm just wondering as a casual consumer/observer. How come people are supposed to tip their valets and bellhops at hotels, and they are always only men while there's no rule that you tip the housekeeping, and they are always female? [more inside]
Best luxury hotels in Fort Worth, Texas? The title says it all - I'm looking for someplace amazing to stay for one or two nights in Fort Worth, TX. My gentleman is looking forward to a concert that's happening there and I'd like to surprise him with a killer package at a luxury hotel the weekend of the show. Bonus points if the hotel is funky and non-chain (a la Hotel San Jose
or Hotel Saint Cecilia
in Austin), although I'd do a chain if it was absolutely top-notch. [more inside]
My kids (ages 12, 9, and almost-6) and I will be in Denver for two days and one night this coming July. I am looking for advice about where to stay and what to do. [more inside]
So our planned January trip
got bumped to March. I knew enough to not try to book anything around SXSW, but even 2 weeks after, there is very limited hotel availability and very high prices. [more inside]

Mrs. COD and myself are headed to VA Beach this weekend, and my efforts to secure a nice hotel cheap via Hotwire / Priceline have not panned out. We are visiting with friends on Chick's beach, so staying somewhere around the Norfolk Airport keeps us within 15 minutes of their place, which is fine. Has anybody stayed at a Norfolk Airport hotel recently? The reviews on the travel sites are kind of scary, but I'm hoping it's just Internet trolling and it's not really that bad. Cheap is good - we just need a place to crash Saturday night. Any recommendations from recent personal experience?

Help me pack in a nice 3 day weekend in DFW with my wife. I've got Rangers tickets for Sunday's game 5/29. I think I want to stay at a Hilton with a nice pool situation. (I've got a boatload of points, so can likely stay at deep discount) I want to do a 5 mile run somewhere scenic on Saturday and maybe Monday morning. Other than that, I love to eat, drink, and spend money. [more inside]

Looking to arrange a vacation getaway that does not entail Club Med style huge pampered resorts, rather have a tiny cottage with local feel and flavor. All major travel sites that I know can't arrange this, are there any websites that do? [more inside]
I need a hotel or a resort, a very special resort. Within a 5 hour drive of Seattle (but not on the ocean itself -- we're going there later in the summer), a big comfortable lobby/lounge to play games, read, talk. Something nice outside, but really, in the Pacific Northwest, that's pretty much a given. Old and funky is fine, new and posh also fine. I'm looking for something memorable. [more inside]

My wife and I are going to Washington DC next year for a few days. Each year in the fall, my DH and I go to Ireland for his business meetings. These meetings last 3-4 days and then he takes 3 days of vacation and we go somewhere else in Europe.

We're going to be visiting Boston for a few days, starting tomorrow (Sunday). We'd like to avoid traffic and parking issues by staying in the outskirts and taking mass-transit into downtown to see the sights.
We're looking for a hotel or motel that is pleasant, clean and fairly inexpensive (less than $125/night IF possible). Any recommendations?
I'm moving from Boston to Cincinnati in a few weeks, and am doing the drive to OH on my own. I'd like to stop halfway through and stay the night - someplace not expensive, but hopefully someplace nice (to help cushion the blow of leaving 'home' for good). However, Travelocity et. al. are just giving me HoJos, Holiday Inns, etc, all for quite a bit of money per night and generally with questionable cleanliness. It seems logical to get off the highway to find a place that's not going to rip me off - but how do I find a nice, clean, mostly inexpensive place while knowing nothing about the area I'm hoping to stop (Rochester/Buffalo/Erie, PA)? Can you help? [more inside]
