Best way to get from LHR to Homerton/Hackney on late Sunday afternoon? [more inside]
Are there metro systems not open to the general public? I know of Moscow's rumoured Metro-2, but are there others, either for military or civilian purposes, that are not part of a city's public transit system? I'd also be interested to know of rumoured systems, or any fictional systems described in great detail.
Aldeburgh to London via public transit, on a Sunday next March: possible? (Google Maps is not listing any option at all on Sundays during the next few weeks, and while Google doesn't have March schedule info yet, I assume March is no better than October.) Hoping this is a glitch or missing info since there are so many options for other days of the week.
I'll be in LA next week without a car and I'd like to see my family who live way out in Riverside County. Is it possible to get out there and back in a single afternoon/evening? [more inside]
My SO & I will be visiting Chicago next weekend - arriving at O'Hare on Friday morning, staying at the Hilton on Michigan Ave, departing O'Hare on Monday morning. We'd like to be able to use bus/train exclusively, so I'm looking for tips & tricks - what are the best apps to use, helpful hints on how/where to buy tickets, etc. Thanks in advance!
I'd prefer to use Curb, Flywheel, & other apps that leverage the extant cab infrastructure to hire rides instead of Uber, Lyft, Sidecar, etc. However, because cab infrastructure varies wildly between cities, so too does the quality of using these apps; calling up a cab on my phone and waiting twenty minutes is worse than feeling slightly conflicted about a rideshare. Where have you used Curb or Flywheel and had a good time? Better than with a rideshare? Worse?
I'm considering moving to Denver from the SF Bay Area, to take advantage of an amazing career opportunity. But this would be a huge change and I have a lot of questions! If you live in Denver or have recently lived there, can you help? [more inside]
Is there any public bus, or other form of public transit, to get me from SFO to Middletown, California, and back again?
In San Francisco, MUNI (the local transit agency) has lot of bus stops marked with nothing more than a yellow band of paint on some nearby pole. This strikes me as old-fashioned and strangely minimal. What other transit systems out there still use (or used) painted poles to indicate bus stops? [more inside]
I just read this comment, and thought this was AWESOME. But unfortunately, it kinda doesn't work. Does your city have an app (iOS preferable, but I can always get a cheap android phone to check it out), that has an AWESOME app for mass transit? Whats the app? "Real time tracker" is what I'm looking for (i think). It need not be awesome in terms of fonts, design, etc. I kinda just want it to be more than a list of schedules. [more inside]
A few days ago I had one of the worst experiences of my life on public transit, and would like to get some feedback on how I should have handled it, and what other people have done in similar situations. [more inside]
My wife and I are visiting Portland, OR for a conference in January, and decided to tack on a quick visit to Seattle afterwards. We know Portland pretty well, but neither of have been to Seattle. We were hoping to use public transit there, but my wife has trouble walking long distances or standing for long periods of time, so we'd need lines that have very frequent and predictable arrivals. I'm visiting New York for Thanksgiving. I'm driving from Pittsburgh to Manhattan and I arrive late tomorrow. I'm staying in the Upper West Side through Saturday, but I'm spending Thanksgiving with family in Monroe, NY. I have one night booked at a hotel in that area. Where can I conveniently and cheaply park my car in Manhattan for 5 days? How can I get from Manhattan to Monroe, NY, reliably and cheaply? I'm currently planning to park on the street and take the Port Jervis line. [more inside]

Next week, on a weekday morning, I need to meet up with a friend near Chicago. She'll be coming from Peoria in a car; I'll be coming from Logan Square, with a carry-on size suitcase and no car. We'll be driving together to Grand Rapids, Michigan. Can you suggest a specific spot that might work? [more inside]
Lately, I have been starting to have symptoms of anxiety when I'm traveling in a vehicle that does not have a bathroom, or that can't easily be exited to find a bathroom. Of course, one of the symptoms of anxiety is needing to eliminate more urgently than normal, so this is becoming a feedback loop. I live in NYC and must use subways and taxis (over long bridges and through long tunnels) all the time. How can I cut the loop? [more inside]

I am a US citizen working for a US company who is being sent to Europe later this year on a temporary (~1 month) work assignment. My ability to work in the destination country is not an issue. My flight to get to and return from the destination leaves from Canada. I have a NEXUS card but won't be arriving in Canada via a NEXUS lane, so I'll do regular land-based Canadian immigration. How do I tell them the purpose of my visit? If I say "flying to Europe," is "for work" an acceptable answer if they ask why, or will CBSA even ask why? I'll have copies of my air tickets away from and back to Canada, along with proof of ties to the US. Am I over thinking this?

One of my coworkers said that the PATH will shut down if the snow accumulates past the height of the 3rd rail. But the line is underground (except outside where there are wires above head-height handling the charge) - could that actually happen. Has the PATH ever been shut down due to snow accumulation before?

I'm spending a weekend going from Baltimore to DC. I would prefer to bring my car and drive but I think with the hassle of trying to find parking or actually having to pay for parking in the DC/Arlington area it would be easier to take the train. I'm not too familiar with Baltimore's Penn Station at night and I'm a concerned for my safety if I were to park in a garage and have to return to their at night. Where is it safe to park at night at Penn Station? And how much would it cost? ... Are there any other alternative ideas? Thanks in advance!
Google Maps' estimates of travel times using the MTR in HK vary wildly from the MTR's own webpage. Ie from Tin Hau to University station, Google says 1hr 24mins incl walking time to Tin Hau, which is maybe 10 mins tops. MTR website says 44 mins for the same journey, not incl walking to station obviously. This discrepancy repeats itself across various planned journeys. Who should I trust?

I will have an evening and a day in Anchorage without a car. I'd love to see some wildlife and spend lots of time looking at the mountains. Also open to other ideas. What should I do and where should I go, and how should I get there without a car? [more inside]
Tonight I need to get from O'Hare airport to a hotel at 540 N Michigan Avenue. It looks like I should take the Blue Line to Washington Station, walk to the Red Line Lake Station, and take the Red Line to Grand Station. Good plan? Would it be easier to change at Jackson Station? 2 more stops each way, but then it looks like less walking between trains.
Due to some ill-advised scheduling, we (Americans) are travelling from London to rural Brittany, then back to our reserved room in Paris three days later. Rennes is the closest major city to Plumieux, the village where our friends live. All of the stuff I see online says to take the Eurostar from London to Gare du Nord in Paris, then transfer to Montparnasse to take the TVG to Rennes. From there we would catch a bus to get us near Plumieux, close enough for our friends to pick us up. [more inside]

In the not-terribly-distant future, I will need to get from a hotel in Vancouver, WA to Portland Airport early on a Sunday morning. Looking at the airport website, they list a bewildering number of taxi and van services. Does anyone have a recommendation? Reliability edges out cost.
I'm flying from Australia to Europe with Vietnam airlines. I think I might have a hidden domestic leg of the flight in Vietnam on the way there, or maybe on both routes. My travel agent says I don't need a visa for this domestic flight. I suspect he is wrong. Has anyone done this flight before who can give me more info? [more inside]
I'm visiting the city of brotherly love for a week and won't have a car, so I was wondering if there are any good iPhone apps for getting around the city either with public transit or taxi-type services.
For the past year I've been trying to bike down every street in St Louis. In the beginning this was easy and wide-open and fun. The middle has been less so. Now, sitting at ≈65% completion [map: zoomable | 1.5mb png | GPX] my current approach has become overwhelming and tedious, and is no longer working; I need to get way smarter about this. How would a programmer, a mathematician, or a GIS/transit specialist approach this endgame, and what tools/software would he/she use? [more inside]

So it looks like I might need to start taking the baby on the bus to her daycare, which is downtown. I say baby… she's pretty much a toddler now, being just under one and a half, and pretty squirmy with it to. My preferred travel option with her when on foot is to put her in a backpack, which she loves and which chills her right out, but we also have a stroller. So… what is the best way to carry her on the bus? I've considered just standing with her in the backpack the whole way, but it seems like there might be a safety concern. There's taking the backpack off and keeping her in it, which seems like it might have similar concerns. Taking her right out of the backpack and putting her in my lap seems like it might be the most safety conscious option, but that assumes a seat and that she will stay put - that later condition being highly unlikely. And then it may be the same deal with the stroller. Thoughts?
