I stupidly let a web hosting account expire without backing up and transferring my site to my new server. I'm talking to the host to try to get access to my data (fingers crossed), but in case that does not work out: Is there a way to efficiently harvest Google's entire cache of a specific domain? Something else I should consider? I would like to act fast on this, and I don't have any programming/tech-fu skills.

Asking on behalf of two friends in China: one (not a Chinese national) wants to loan a large amount of money to the other (who is Chinese). The problem is the foreigner's account (even though it's a Chinese bank account) is in Euros. They tried to go to the local (Chinese) bank and do a transfer, but were told that it was illegal to transfer a foreign currency to a Chinese person like that, and that they would have to first convert all the money to RMB and then could give it to him, but that gets pretty expensive with exchange rates and fees, since this is apparently a pretty large sum. So the question is: What's the best way for a foreigner to transfer his money, in euros, at his Chinese bank account to the Chinese bank account of a Chinese national? Is there any bank card or service which the Chinese national can apply for to make it easier?

Dear Interlocutors from Ask MetaFilter,
Please help me understand if the sequence of the steps I figure out to transfer my son Edoardo from a private school in New York State to the New York City public school system is correct. Unfortunately the staff of the High School Enrollment Office is very laconic.
1) I have Edoardo's current school complete the "Out of City Request Form"
2) I fax the HS Enrollment Office 2 documents as a proof we are residents in New York City
3) I enter my high school choices in priority order on my "Round 2 and New Schools Choice Form". My question is: where may I find this form?
4) I return the completed and signed "Round 2 and New Schools Choice Form" to my guidance counselor. Here my question is: who is my guidance counselor?

I have a USD account in the UK and received an incoming amount in GBP. However, it was supposed to be sent in USD from the US (so that's a cross-border transfer). The sender also claims that the amount was sent in USD. My bank claims and also the statement tells that the money came in GBP. Because of the double conversion (usd->gbp->usd) I received significantly less than if it happened without any conversion.
My only idea at the moment is that an intermediary bank applied a conversion.. Can this happen? How can I clearly find out what happened? How to avoid this from happening again?
Thanks for your suggestions!

How to get the exact amount as it was sent via wiretransfer? I noticed that even an amount is sent by setting that the sender is paying the fees of the transfer, still there is some amount less which arrives to the receiver destination account.
What is the reason for this? How can I minimize this loss and how can I find out where this loss happened?
I noticed so far a loss of $30, but last time arriving of an about $250 less was a bit shocking for me. This difference is a bit strange for me, mainly that I do not have a clue where exactly this loss happened to park.
Thanks for your suggestions!

MacBook -> iPhone Filter: I have a MacBook Pro (running 10.6.8), and I have an iPhone (the last model before Siri; not jail broken and would prefer to keep it that way). Since I spend more time on the Macbook, I generate most of my files there, besides .mp3s (such as documents/text files, PDFs, and .jpegs found on line or taken with Photo Booth, etc.), whereas except for listening to iTunes and making actual calls, I mostly use the iPhone for killing time, or would like to anyway, only I haven't found a good way to move my text files, PDFs, and .jpgs from the MacBook over to the iPhone. How do?

My job on a university campus entails incrementally building relationships with faculty and administrators over the course of many years. In the fall of 2012, I will be subbing for a director on a different campus for one semester. It doesn't make as much sense to slowly build relationships because I will be returning to my home campus in Spring 2013. Yet, I still want to be proactive. What is a good framework for thinking about a one semester cameo on a new campus?

After years of mulling about, I've come to realize that I want to to go to university and gain a proper liberal arts education. For the first time in what feels like eons, I feel enthusiastic and motivated. Trouble is, my first attempt at doing so was three years ago and under much different and more trying circumstances. It seems that the consequences of my halfhearted younger self have severely damaged my future possibilities. What can this 21-year-old do to demonstrate his new-found ardor for all pursuits academic?

I have a all wheel drive vehicle. A number of years ago all four tires were replaced , they have never been rotated. Now the fronts will not pass inspection but the rears probably have about 40% of tread left. I understand that one can ruin the transfer case if one runs different sized tires on this and many other all wheel drives. I would like to buy two of the exact same tires, which are still available, and put those on the back and put the old tires on the front. Do you think that the difference in diameter between the new tires and the partially worn ones will cause a problem with the drive train?
