My toddler loves watching train videos on YouTube, and this morning we ran across this one, featuring a kid playing with his new toy train, purchased in "Chinatown". Toddler has now expressed a deep desire to have Santa leave one of those under the tree. I *think* I've IDed that train as the Kids Athority High-Speed Train Set, but no one on the Internet seems to sell it. So, I turn to you, my friends in the green - any thoughts on how someone who's not really near any random Chinatown might acquire one of these in time to have Santa drop it off?

I want to buy a fake cat for someone who loves cats but can't have one because she lives in a nursing home. Here's what she's looking for (cribbed from a newspaper column she writes): "I just long to hold a cat and enjoy their softness and purring. So, this is my solution: I’m going to look in Walmart for a stuffed cat that talks and meows and purrs. It must be softer than soft and I’ll call him Sammy." This seems like it would be purr... well, you know. But it's out of stock. Are there any MeFites out there who can advise me on the best fake cat for grown-ups?

As a kid growing up in the 80s I often played with a 'speak and spell' kind of toy whose idiosyncratic (British?) digitized voice is burned into my head to this day, decades later. Help me figure out who made the toy and what its name was. [more inside]
We have decided it's important for our cats to make the transition from outdoor cats to indoor cats - they're doing OK with it, but they want to play for hours, and we don't have the attention span to dangle a string in front of them all day. Given that we now live in the future, I assume there must exist some good robotic mice, birds or insects or something. Anyone have any good recommendations? [more inside]
I saw the coolest little foursquare toy, kind of a portable mini-court, yesterday at the park. I wish I'd stopped and talked to the guys playing with it, but I thought I could find it pretty easily... but not so. So there's a little trampoline, I guess that's about two feet square, with a circular wall around it divided into four sections. They had a ball smaller than a kickball but bigger than a tennis ball, and if they hit it on the trampoline and it went between one person's section of the bordering wall, then it was like it had hit their square. Does anybody know what this? I must have one. Immediately.

So there is the stress ball. That one I know. Does anyone have any other ideas for dealing with nervous energy from stress and anxiety in the office that won't bother people around you so much (esp those moments when I can't just go for a long walk or to the gym, etc). It’s a fairly routine problem for me that even after the stressor is long gone, the nervous energy sticks around. I don't so much need the 'take a deep breath' or 'think positive' type of thing, I might not even be actively thinking or worrying about anything; and I already have a good doc for the long term aspects. Just looking for some ideas about the tactile and physical side of this thing, which tends to stick around for a while and can be pretty uncomfortable.
I would like to purchase the singing plush bunny shown in this video. I can't find it anywhere. Can you help me find it?
I can't figure out what this strange thing is. It resembles a set of dominoes with unfamiliar symbols on them. I'm sure someone out there will recognize it immediately. Thanks! picture 1 picture 2 picture 3

For kids under the age of three, what household objects have been the most entertaining for your kids? I'm looking for household objects that your kid discovered and ended up being a cherished play item, not things bought in a toy store (e.g. buckets, bags, boxes, dead remotes, phones, etc.)? No electronics please.
One year old is very inquisitive and very active. I need to drive twice a week with a one hour duration each way. With a dislike of being in the car (or just being confined), little one has figured out how to undo the seat belts. Without getting new car seats, are there any good mobile toys or anything to keep this mind (and hands) happy? Stores are full of colourful toys which last all of 2 minutes. Was contemplating something along the lines of an easier version of rubik's cube. Open to all suggestions. Thank you. (Also welcome suggestions for iPad apps - preferably ones that require some thinking rather than just play music.)
I have a radio control boat without a remote, very similar to the one pictured here. After much Googling, it doesn't look like a replacement is easily available. How would I go about setting up a radio control remote for this boat? What information and equipment would I need?
