Looking for a good store in Toronto for baby gifts

A friend of mine recently did me a huge favor. I'd like to get him something for his newborn baby to say thank you. He lives in Toronto, I live in California. Are there any Toronto baby/child stores you'd recommend? Ideally ones that offer gift vouchers that I can order online.

Toronto in December

I have the opportunity to visit Toronto from December 25 - December 29 and I have a few questions: 1) Will things (restaurants, shops, museums) be open on Christmas Day and Boxing Day? 2) Is it foolish to visit in December (weather? crowds?)? 3) What are the must-see, must-do things in Toronto? 4) What are the best restaurants in Toronto? (I'm looking for fine dining as well as local fare.) Thanks!

Legal requirements for firing someone from a retail job in Ontario...

I run a retail business in Toronto, Canada. It's an independently owned business--like a mom and pop store. I need to fire someone because he's incompetent and his presence actually makes more work for the other staff. I have emailed and texted with this staff member (who has worked with us for 13 months) regarding his considerable transgressions but we do not have "paperwork" or "forms" in the traditional sense. His work never improves. What exactly do I have to do to fire him without worrying about legal issues? Two weeks pay? Three? Does the firing need to be written in addition to verbal or is just verbal fine? What's the best way for me to cover my ass? [more inside]

Shirt ironing service in Toronto for male and female shirts

Toronto-filter: Is there a good place to get shirts (both male and female) washed and ironed for a reasonable price? I've tried dry cleaners but while male shirts seem to be ok from a price perspective (although still expensive), female shirts (exact same material, some form of cotton blend) are charged at twice and sometimes three times the price, even though they are, almost literally, just smaller men's shirts. Any recommendations would be helpful. Thanks.

Where to print and bind a 500 page PDF in Toronto?

Toronto-filter: Some professors at my school are giving their textbooks to us students, free, via a printable PDF. So, I'd like to get it printed as cheaply as possible and then bound. Where's the best place to do this? Our textbook are on average ~500 pages. Proximity to Bloor and Spadina is a big plus.

Tell me why I should or should not incorporate in Ontario, Canada

I'm a web developer in Toronto who is currently operating as a sole proprietor. A prospective new client would really like to hire me for a major new project, but they can only deal with incorporated companies and cannot hire a sole prop. I'm looking for advice on incorporating from a) people in Canada and especially Ontario, but also from b) anyone who has any relevant advice about the experience of becoming an Inc., even if you are not Canadian. Yes, I will be engaging an accountant or lawyer for specific advice if I do decide to move forward, so I'm not worried that some specific advice may not be appropriate for my jurisdiction: I'm just trying to get a broad picture of what it's like (and some recommendations for lawyers/accountants). How to sell a valuable Grateful Dead poster?

An elderly family friend has an original poster (known as BG074) and program from the 1967 Jefferson Airplane and Grateful Dead concert at the O'Keefe Centre in Toronto. He is interested in selling the poster and program, and I've offered to help out. According to Wolfgang's Vault, "BG074 is among the rarest of posters. There are hard to verify stories that the original cache of posters was confiscated at the Canadian border by border patrol, but whether the posters were seized or simply put away by contented Canadians, this summer concert made a big impression." Accordingly, I've seen auctions and online memorabilia stores listing this poster in the $5,000 and up range, and the program for close to $1,000. What is the best way to authenticate and sell these items? I contacted Wolfgang's Vault but they don't normally purchase individual items, and the art dealers I've been in touch with don't deal with rock memorabilia. Is there a Sotheby's of rock? Is eBay even worth considering?
