My friend is doing a stint at a hospital in Washington at the end of this year, and in January he plans to spend a few days sightseeing NY before going up to Toronto, visiting Taiwan and then returning home (Australia). Sis and I plan to join him for the NY/Toronto part, but we haven't decided on where to go from there.

Post-Xmas/Pre-NY last-minute travel opportunities from Toronto or Buffalo: is this a possibility or am I crazy? I was hoping for a 3-4 day beach destination, booked for next-day travel, for around $500/pp. How do I find last-last-last minute bookings?

Air Canada WTF? On Tuesday I took a trip from Laguardia Airport to Pearson Toronto to CDG, Paris on Air Canada. From Toronto to Paris, they lost one of my bags, which wouldn't be terrible except said bas contained 1) My only change of clothes for the next 2 weeks 2) My BFs extra heart medication and 3) I'm leaving for Prague in 4 days and there is still no news. Is there anyone I can call or talk to see that I actually get my stuff before I leave France? Kakfaesque detail follows.

I really want to get away from my house to finish up some screenplays for a May 1 deadline. So where can a not-so-rich person go for the last two weeks of April that will allow much peace and quiet while being both safe and warm enough to wander around in short sleeves night and day. Suppose a cost of around $1500--the cheaper the better--including return airfare to Toronto. Note that I like seclusion but I also don't drive so it needs to be someplace close to the necessities.

Flying from Edmonton to Toronto: $285 on flight AC172. Flying Edmonton to Newark via Toronto(AC172): $258.
I only have carry-on luggage. Is there any reason why I can't buy the ticket to Newark and just get off in Toronto?

I take a lot of short business trips and I don't really like hotels that much. I would prefer to stay in an apartment. Does anyone know of a nationwide group which rents apartments for just a few days? Failing that, such a group in Chicago or Toronto would be great. In Montreal I found a hotel that had some apartments in a building around the corner, and that was a pretty good solution.

Going to Toronto next weekend for the first time, for three days and staying at the Canadiana Backpackers Hostel in downtown Toronto. We are three college students - can anyone recommend free/cheap things to do and explore? We'd prefer to avoid touristy spots, have a high interest in walking everywhere, exploring ethnic neighborhoods (where'd the best place for good, authentic dim sum in Toronto?)
