TorontoFilter: I used to play chess all the time at the chess tables at Yonge and Gould before they tore them down about ten years ago. I know that these tables had a proper name. There was a City of Toronto plaque there that they removed about six months before they removed the tables. Does anyone remember what the official name was?

So a friend of mine locked his bike to a city-provided bike post... he came back and the city (Toronto) had torn up the entire sidewalk for 2 blocks, including where he had locked his bike. The workers tossed the bikes aside, some still locked to the posts, but some of the posts broken in two thereby freeing up the bikes. His bike was gone. There was no indication from the city that they were going to do this (signs not to lock your bike, etc.). Police have been called but consider it a "stolen bike" issue... now what? Can someone recommend a nice restaurant in Toronto for my mom (age 60) and her friends? A group of about eight of them are going to the Second City show tomorrow night, and my mom wasn't sure where they should eat. They're looking for something near King St. (the theatre is on Mercer St.) that has a nice/classy atmosphere but won't be too fancy, as they won't be dressed up. In terms of type of food, they're not too adventurous, but would probably prefer something nicer than pub food, and not too meat-focused, as one friend is vegetarian. (Maybe an Italian place?)
