Best way to share audio + text content for viewing on iPhone?

I want to create multi-page content consisting of text + spoken-word-audio, viewable on iPhone. Content consumption would work as follows: 1. Page displays text and plays audio (additional tap to launch audio would be okay) 2. User taps something to call up next page. My first thought was Powerpoint, but I haven't found an iPhone app that handles audio embedded in PPT. I'm limited to working on my Windows PC, so I think Keynote is out. Any thoughts on a format to use for the content, and app to use to consume it? [more inside]

I can't believe I am asking a question about emoji, but I am.

I have an iphone 4S. I imessage with my husband and son a lot, they using an iPhone 3 and an iPad and iMac. If I send a message with an emoji in it, the emoji shows on my phone screen as the graphic/picture, and shows on their screen as the graphic/picture. If they send me a message with an emoji it shows on their screen as a graphic/picture, but shows on my screen as letters/symbols (e.g. :) <3 etc.) I know it is a bit silly, but this is driving my crazy. And my nearly 10 year old likes using emoji so I would rather figure it out than just say 'don't send me the damn things'.

Reading Specific Text

Is there a software program that will read specific text in the spirit of how Google finds specific text? For instance, rather than reading the entire document, if I wanted to search the terms and conditions of a cell phone contract for a few sentences surrounding the phrase "percentage" (as if I was interested in seeing if the provider talked about the percentage of time a particular cell network is up and running v its down time), is there a program that could read me those sentences? Could I give it parameters like, read the paragraph before the keyword to the paragraph after or begin when a capitalized letter follows a period? I know this description isn't perfect, and I know Microsoft Sam and other readers like Dragon Naturally Speaking and others can read entire texts, but is there anything that lets me specify what I want it to read?

Why does my car stereo display text differently in day and night modes?

I admit up front this is an odd question, and it won't kill me if I never get an authoritative answer, but it's been bugging me. My car's stereo has an LCD display that gives the artist's name in fairly large letters and the track title below that in smaller letters. It can only display so many letters of course, and so it has to truncate most names and titles. But it truncates text differently in its daytime and nighttime modes. Why does it do that? My phone doesn't know me anymore.

Up until a week or two ago, my phone's predictive text function predicted not just which word I was typing, but also which word I was likely to type next. It used an algorithm which not only paired common words, but which (and this is the important bit) also learned which words I used frequently. Now that's not happening any more. Predictive text is still working, but it doesn't seem to be learning my vocabulary any more. How can I make this work again? [more inside]

Diagnose my iPhone

Text messaging consistently does not work on my phone (iPhone 4s, AT&T). 2 failure modes: 1) The blue "Sending" bar does not go all the way to complete in iMessage 2) I'll send a text successfully, and the other person will text me back right away, but I won't receive their reply. When I do get their reply, however, it'll say the correct timestamp (from when they sent it, which is often hours earlier.) This always happens with some people and never with others. It happens to both iMessage and regular texts. I'm wondering whether to take it to the Apple store, the AT&T store, to do a factory reset, or to fiddle with some other settings. Has anyone else encountered this and been able to fix it?

"Nah, boss; I'm just a speedreader"

Before building my own... does this software exist? I need to search a collection of PDF & Word files for key phrases, and dump the surrounding lines (x-m to x+n characters/lines, where x is the found phrase) into text files. I occasionally need to search a few dozen files for a few dozen data items, which usually have some identifying text nearby. This needs to be automated. Big bonus if it implements OCR, but that's not essential. Freeware, or cheapware, obviously is best. Windows-based is preferable, but I can do Linux.

Software for computing the emotional intensity of messages?

Remember around 2000 when the Eudora e-mail program came with Moodwatch, which claimed to find out how "hot" your messages were running by looking for swear words (and maybe sarcasm, I'm not sure?) Need help finding animation tutorials/classes for this style?

Hi Everyone! All of my clients are asking for this style of animation/screen casting (SFW): http://youtu.be/RYZ7IkboW7M It's the manic screen twisting animation with text and simple images displayed over basic color backgrounds. I am moderately skilled in After Effects (and own the suite) so I'd love to accommodate them, but I am more accustomed to creating explosions, light sabers and monsters than this kind of stuff. I would like to know if anyone knows of specific online classes or easy to follow tutorials for this specific style/type of animation? I've found many After Effects tutorials, but I'm looking for something specifically geared to creating a video similar to the one posted above. I am happily prepared to pay for these as I really need to be somewhat proficient in this by early 2014. Thanks a million!

Form with Numbers and Text

I want to create a form with Open Office that lets me enter numbers in the right column of a page that corresponds to the text in the left. I want to be able to past the entire text document into the right column and have the left column remain blank for my entries. A spreadsheet won't work because the text won't word wrap. I've also tried a table and inserting a column into a text document. I've also tried to write in the margin, but I'll be moving a lot of documents, so I don't want to do a lot of specific typing, which would likely be spread across thousands of pages of documents. I'd like to automate and past as much of this as possible. Think of how books of poetry or philosophy number each line of corresponding text, making it easy to find a specific verse. That's the form I want to create. Or if it has already been created and exists somewhere, I'd gladly download it. Help.

Text and calls for an iPhone 5 in four countries

I have an unlocked iPhone 5 with Verizon. (It is verifiably unlocked for foreign SIM card use -- and yes, even though it is Verizon it does have GSM as well as CDMA). I'm looking for advice on how to travel with it to four countries, with the ability to receive/send calls and texts. I'd like to buy and use one SIM card only. And I want to be sure that I don't use any data, which gets expensive. So the question boils down to: (1) Keep the iPhone or ditch it for my unlocked travel phone? (2) Use the Verizon international plan, or buy an offering from Telestial, Global, etc.? More inside. [more inside]
