Deadbeat suddenly wants to parent

My ex has suddenly decided he wants to parent again. He got a bit screwed when it came to holidays and summer because based on his behavior during our marriage and the divorce he wouldn't be bothered. Anyways he says he has a lawyer and is going to send me papers to sign to lower his monthly child support payment and adjust holiday visits because he is making less money than when we got divorced. This is likely true he had the best job he has ever had aside from the military when we were getting divorced. [more inside]

Investment restrictions during Developer controlled HOA?

The developer of my neighborhood (a single individual) built a personal home in the neighborhood and still lives here. He was the HOA's acting president (as the developer) until the development reached 75% capacity and then had 120 days to hold a vote to transition to an Owner based HOA. The new board has parsed the numbers and I am most concerned with insane "investment" he made to himself with the HOA's money -- resulting in a $15k loss. Can this be legal? [more inside]

Fix my back in Austin

I was diagnosed with bulging L4/L5 discs with spondylolysis and stenosis. Doctor convinced me to get epidural / facet injections. After the shots, I started getting very bad sciatica ( I think its sciatica ). I could hardly stand in the shower. Before the shots I was running half marathons. Now I can't run at all. I can't lift heavy things. Only walking makes it feel better. Its been six months with no improvement. The quality of my life is way worse than it was before. What happened post injection? Can anyone recommend a good back doctor / orthopedist in Austin?

Texas residency and in-state tution

Hi, I'm planning on starting graduate school in Texas in fall, 2015. Right now we (my husband and I) are living in another state. Then plan is to move to Texas in Augest, 2015. Husband would physically be in Texas but working remotely for an employer outside of Texas. Is it possible for me to qualify for in-state tuition rate? What needs to be done in order to gain residency in Texas? Thanks.

Bed and Breakfast in the Texas Hill Country

My company has offered me a weekend at a B&B in the Texas Hill Country in thanks for 10 years of service. Looking on the web there appear to be thousands of them, with wildly scattered reviews depending on which review site one chooses. Having had mixed experiences with B&B's, I thought I'd turn to the green for suggestions. If you've been to one in that area that you would recommend (or steer us away from), please write below.

Roadtrip from Hammond, Louisianna to Vancouver, BC

I will be in Hammond, Louisiana this October and wanted to make a road trip back to my home in Vancouver Canada. The current plan is to buy a vehicle in Hammond or New Orleans, then drive through Texas and up the coast. I am an artist, so visiting sites like Marfa to see the Chianti Foundation and visiting LA to see the MOCA and the Hammer are priorities. I am asking for advice on art sites and routes with the most interesting or essential things to see. I've visited a few places in the US but this is a big trip for me I may not be able to make again so I'd like to make the most of it. If you are American, assume I know nothing. The obvious for you may not be that obvious to a Canadian. Thanks!

Keep the Pollen off My Porch, Please

I have, on the second floor of my home in Texas, a screened-in porch with chairs, a massage table, and a sauna. Every few months, everything is coated in a fine yellow mist, and (ignoring what havoc it wrecks with my sinuses) the whole place is a two-hour pain to clean. Hive Mind: Suggestions for keeping the pollen out? Alternatively, suggestions for cleaning that are more effective (I always end up with some on the roof of the sauna, some in the structural whatsits in the roof, all over the floor, chairs, table, etc) than going through with a 36 pack of bar rags and crazily-diluted bleach?

What is a safe proximity from a Smart Meter for a pregnant woman?

My home's Smart Meter is located directly across from my kitchen sink, on the exterior side of the wall they share. I probably spend about 40 minutes each day standing within 2 feet of the meter, doing dishes and washing produce, etc. My stove is only about 4 feet from the meter, and I love to cook so I spend a considerable amount of time there as well. Wanted: Best Houston Barbecue

I'm going to Houston for a weekend next month, and will be wanting some good Texas barbecue. Where are the best places these days for true Texas barbecue in Houston? If they don't have their own smoker, or if the word "pulled" appears anywhere on the menu, I'm not interested.

How can I find an inexpensive beach rental on the TX coast?

Where can retired Alaska snowbirds find a rental along the Texas gulf coast? By that I do not mean where are the nice beaches, as I know the answers to that question. I need to know HOW to find a rental by the month that includes linens, a furnished kitchen, cable, and internet. VRBO, Craigslist, airbnb, and other sources have failed. Everything I find is daily/weekly and incredibly expensive. I hope to travel from mid Jan thru mid Feb and $900 to $1100 per month seams reasonable to me. The specific location is not as important as price, and a beach view.

Best luxury hotels in Fort Worth, Texas? The title says it all - I'm looking for someplace amazing to stay for one or two nights in Fort Worth, TX. My gentleman is looking forward to a concert that's happening there and I'd like to surprise him with a killer package at a luxury hotel the weekend of the show. Cool and quirky in San Antonio

Moving to Boerne/San Antonio next week. Looking for two things: cool places/shops/places to visit; and web sites. I want to know about the one cemetery that has the coolest old statues, the park that offers the best secret hideouts, the store that has the weirdest hand made tchotchkes. Two particular items of interest: fabric stores (NOT Joann's - I want the cool, local place); and a place to get very nice wood for woodworking, since the hubby likes to make stuff, including guitars. Music stores would also be welcome. I'm an interior designer, and would love an introduction to the "to the trade" stores/warehouses in the area, too. Web sites that will help me get to know the area. Especially as I'm a stay at home mom, and I'd love to meet other parents and find cool places to take my kids. These could be business web sites, organizations, blogs, you name it. For the record, I'm not religious at all and I lean very liberal, so super conservative stuff is definitely not what I'm after. Thanks, mefites!
