A researcher at my workplace has asked for help finding examples of his topic, early examples of "GIS (Geographic Information Systems) or GPS (Global Positioning Systems) technologies in film and TV", "examples of early precursors to map related technologies". I found someone else's Ask from earlier this year that hits on some likely ones, but he's on the lookout for older and more diverse instances if you can think of any. More details and examples below the fold!

Does anyone yet sell a device that would allow me to plug a tv set-top box into it and directly record an mp4 video file? (For the purposes of copying old VHS tapes and recording some sports matches for posterity from TV).

Best setup for watching web video on TV? I currently have a PS3 which I occasionally use to watch Youtube etc via the TV. I'd like to do this more (especially longer videos) but using the PS3 is annoying for this, and I'd like some way to set up the videos on a laptop or tablet and send them wirelessly to the TV. What are my options?

Hello. I have lost my remote for my Sylvania SRT 2319 and am trying to program my Time Warner Universal remote to work with it. I have found the code and the remote will power on and off the TV but it will not control any other features. Any time I press the channel key or a number key the CBL (cable) device button blinks, like it's not registering as a TV button. Does that make sense? What can I do?

Would it be correct to say that with digital technology, we don't have to worry about movies and TV becoming faded and washed out over time like they used to?

Okay, I am clueless about matching up a possible new TV and TiVo unit with all of the HDTV/digital transition rigamarole coming up in the next few months. Complicating that, my cable (expanded basic) is included in my apartment building, and I probably can't upgrade service. Help?

I'm a TiVo owner and Mac OSX user, and I'd like to the ability to transfer upcoming (and some currently saved) programs from my Tivo (Series 2, 80hour) to my Mac. I have DSL that comes into an Apple Air Port.
What's the best way to do this? (Or is the easiest thing to buy an external DVD recorder on my TV and record stuff that way?) I just want to occasionally share a clip with non-TiVo-owning friends/colleagues that they should see.
