Give a Song a Title

Mad Men TV Commercial Tune The new TV spot for Mad Men has in the background a great tune that is too short for shazam or any tune-finder to latch onto.

It begins with voiceover, "The critics agree..." and then cuts to text cued to a brass hit (bop, bop, bop, [lower]bop). Repeat, add ooh and ahh lyric.

Can anyone help me with the title and artist. I looked at AdBlather and AdTunes without success.

It's been airing quite a bit on the Food Network lately.

Thanks in advance.

What is this tune? That's a friend of mine singing a bit from a tune that's stuck in her head driving her crazy. She said she thinks it might be from TV of the past, maybe the Ed Sullivan show or Ernie Kovacs.

Pump Up The PSA

Do you remember a late 80's anti-drug PSA that was a short film entirely set to the M/A/R/R/S song "Pump Up The Volume"? Was this a national ad? Can it be found anywhere online? More details inside... In the late 80s (87-90) I lived in Cape Coral, Fl and would come home after school to watch TV on local channels there. I remember several times shows being pre-empted for a long (I'd say 10 minutes-ish) PSA which was dialogue-free but showed a guy in his late teens/early 20s with a junior high mustache going to a party, using drugs, and in the end he dies.

The ending was very memorable with the EMT trying to revive the guy, using shock paddles, and the shocks were timed to beats of the song. And when over the song just stopped and was replaced by the constant tone of a heart monitor reporting no heartbeat.

I have remembered this ad for 20 years but since leaving Florida have never seen it since. I don't know if it was a local ad or what, nor why it aired as often as it did (perhaps a sports game ran long and the local station needed filler until the top of the hour to resume normal programming?). But does anyone else know about this video? Can it be found online anywhere?

Who owns rights to the use of the song in Film?

Can someone please explain how to get Synchronization Rights to a Cover Version of a song? Or who would have control of whether you can use a cover version in a film.
For example, in say the Life Aquatic parts of the sound track use Seu Jorge cover versions of David Bowie songs (sung in Portuguese).

So who's permission do you need (who do you pay) to use a recording like that in a Film (I assume, TV, DVD, etc are the same)?

Name that 1950s or 1960s TV theme song

What 1950s or 1960s TV show theme song sounds like Dragnet? It sounds like this Dragnet closing song [YouTube]. The very same type of march rhythm and the exact same tempo, but it sounds a little darker and is accompanied by steel rhythm guitar (very slightly Batman theme-ish). Maybe there was a Dragnet knockoff show? It's not Peter Gunn, which sounds entirely different anyway.

I heard the song on XM Radio's 1960s station the other day, if that helps any.

Help identify cartoon by its short "bumper" music

I need help identifying an action-y cartoon from the 90s by this ~4 second musical clip that's been in my head for years. I made a quick recording [mp3] on an electric guitar. More clues inside. What else I know about it:

I'm pretty sure it was played right before or right after a commercial break dubbed with "Don't go away, [show] will be right back."

The show was action-based like X-men, Transformers, Iron Man, etc...

The tune may or may not be a part of the main theme.

It was made in the 90s.

Boy, howdy I'd love to have this satisfied.

What's-that-song filter. Anyone know the name of the song that plays in the first half of NBC's Jim-and-Pam centric commercial for the new season of "The Office"? Googling for the only lyrics I can make out -- "tears that I've cried over you" -- yields nothing. Ideas? It sounds like a band in the Coldplay or Keane vein, but based on the voice of the singer I don't think it's actually either of those bands.

"THAT GIRL IS HOT", but from where?

TV song filter: What song clip was featured in a recent episode of "The Loop" on Fox? It may have been a few episodes ago, tivo viewing sometimes confuses me. But the clip would play when one of the hot female roomates would walk through the room. The lyrics are "That girl is Hot" A real Bassy sounding voice. Reminds me of something early 90's or earlier? That's all I know. Besides being a new catchphrase around my house, It's driving me crazy that I can't figure it out!
Help me Metafilter, you're my only hope.

Name That Tune :: PBS ThirteenHD Promo

Name that tune please :: PBS is great, and the songs in their promos are actually just as good. Currently running is a promo that ends with the words; "Be More ~ ThirteenHD" (this is PBS Thirteen's High-Def channel which they broadcast in NYC & possibly elsewhere?). The music which accompanies it is a piece that I'd classify as sort of a Blues/Rock/Jazz instrumental.
My Question: Name that tune!?!

If someone knows where to get this song online, that would be great too! I haven't had any luck, but I did find these sites containing some different PBS promos:

Some additional info:
The promo in question has some scenes of an old guy in a hat jamming on an electric guitar...he looks like your typical blues musician. The clip runs about 30 seconds, or so, long. Sorry for the limited info, but thanks so much for any help you can provide!

My husband and I have both been googling for hours, with no luck. I finally gave in and came here to query all of you. Was Chuck Mangione's song "Feel So Good" ever used as the theme song or lead-in to a television show? (MI) Googling gave me nothing until I tried googling groups, and then I came up with some signs that others have asked this same thing...only no answers. Here's one ...here's another.
