So I recently moved to San Mateo, CA from Chicago, hurray! Pretty much everything has been great and the move quite smooth. What sucks is that in the move my beloved Panasonic ST60 60 inch was broken, likely during the drive out here. I had moved who packed it up and delivered it to UPack, then moved who unloaded it from there and moved it into my house. Sadly it didn't survive. Now I need to start looking or thinking about a replacement BUT Panasonic stopped making plasma's altogether and I wasn't expecting to have to buy a TV again so soon. What should my next TV be? My current bedroom TV has decided it prefers to only do sound now. Not a big deal-it is old and was a hand-me-down. But, holymajoly, this TV buying thing is WAY more complicated than "I need a TV. OK, that one." [more inside]

Why does white on a TV screen cause audible buzzing noise?
It's obvious more on an all-white screen, but even small amounts like captions. It seems like it's been this way for decades, through CRT and on to plasma HDTV screens. [more inside]

I'm about to buy a Panasonic TC-P42U2 plasma flat-panel TV (Amazon
) As you can see, buying from Newegg will cost me $100 more than buying from Amazon, yet I'm tempted to do just that since Newegg has an unimpeachable customer service record. Am I crazy? [more inside]

Looking for a good flatscreen TV, 42" or thereabouts... and white. I haven't been able to find anything that size that isn't in industry-standard black. Any suggestions?

My wife wants to get a plasma/LCD TV and mount it over the fireplace. That just seems way too high to watch comfortably, though. Does anyone have any experience with a TV mounted that high? Will the kids be able to watch it if they're sitting on the floor? Does angling it help?

Are the display artifacts I'm seeing in our plasma screen due to the low broadcast resolution, or due the the tv itself? [more inside]

I need help choosing my tv. This is my second really expensive purchase, and I know a lot less about TVs than I do computers.
Help me decide between 2 models of different brands, or suggest better!
Also where to buy from recommendations! [more inside]
