If I buy the nonamebrand TV it's going to explode!?

My current bedroom TV has decided it prefers to only do sound now. Not a big deal-it is old and was a hand-me-down. But, holymajoly, this TV buying thing is WAY more complicated than "I need a TV. OK, that one." [more inside]

Why does white on TV make noise?

Why does white on a TV screen cause audible buzzing noise? It's obvious more on an all-white screen, but even small amounts like captions. It seems like it's been this way for decades, through CRT and on to plasma HDTV screens. [more inside]

Am I being irrational?

I'm about to buy a Panasonic TC-P42U2 plasma flat-panel TV (Amazon, Newegg) As you can see, buying from Newegg will cost me $100 more than buying from Amazon, yet I'm tempted to do just that since Newegg has an unimpeachable customer service record. Am I crazy? [more inside]

Will I get a crick in my neck from watching a TV over the fireplace?

My wife wants to get a plasma/LCD TV and mount it over the fireplace. That just seems way too high to watch comfortably, though. Does anyone have any experience with a TV mounted that high? Will the kids be able to watch it if they're sitting on the floor? Does angling it help?
