Finally was happily using NimbleTV as a DVR alternative with Roku, and now the company is "regrouping" aka service is dead. Is there anything like it that I can use to record and play back tv? Limitations: must be compatible with ClearQAM (no cable card or box). Already tried and failed with SimpleTV and Tivo. I have Roku 3 and an external 1TB drive that I bought for the Simpletv but wasn't able to use. Me, Previously

My Comcast cable contract is up and I'm trying to decide if I want to cut the cord, or sign another contract in order to get my rate back down. The only thing not easily replaceable by Hulu / Netflix / Amazon is live sports. [more inside]

Haven't owned a TV ever since I got a projector, but now that I'm back in the US I'd like to catch Oakland A's games on local broadcast. How to do this as cheaply as possible? [more inside]
My dad's fed up with his Verizon cable + internet package. It's expensive, and they won't let him suspend it when he's not there for months at a time. He'd like to get his services from a less user-hostile service provider. Ah, but what kind? Cable? Satellite? Something over phone lines? [more inside]
We just received notice (so far just an automated phone message) that Charter is switching to 100% digital signal on their cable TV system, and as a result we would be required to get a cable box. Now, part of Charter's signal is on analog channels, and part is on digital, and the tuner in our TV can locate them all. Does tis mean that post-conversion all the channels will be beyond the range of the tuner in our recent-vintage LG TV? We have the 3-way bundle with Charter for phone, broadband internet, and cable TV all at their lowest level of service, the TV is called "Basic cable." I understand they are phasing this in, so I'm wondering if someone who already has experienced this could comment on what was the result. [more inside]

We have a TV but no cable subscription (we mostly watch content through Netflix or purchase on Xbox). We used to be able to watch the normal network channels with no problem -- Fox, NBC, CBS, ABC, and several PBS stations, along with some other stuff. We had both regular and HD channels. Now they're all gone and the only channels we can access are some jazz scheduling thing out of San Mateo, a bunch of radio channels, and NHK World (learning a lot about Japan!). I really miss PBS and wouldn't mind watching the Super Bowl. Please help. [more inside]
So, through a series of unfortunate events we've made the switch to Comcast for tv & internet. In conjunction with the switch, we got a new Tivo Roamio. In order to make it work, we need a CableCard. How can I get one as painlessly as possible? [more inside]
Had the Comcast basic cable service. Saw a deal for HBO for just an extra $10 a month for a year. Ordered. Had to get a new Set Top Box in order to display HBO. The box included instructions for setup, they looked simple. Except the instruction diagrams didn't match the box that was sent. [more inside]
I have a new (to me -- it's about 10 months old overall, I think) HDTV that, unfortunately, doesn't have an Ethernet port nor does it have wireless connectivity. It was a gift, of sorts, so I'm kind of stuck with it. Since I had a very old standard set, it's still an upgrade. Now, I'm looking at options for HD television content, like maybe the Roku, AppleTV or any other neat solutions that I don't know about yet. [more inside]
We would like to watch "The Day of the Doctor" in our home on our TV during its initial broadcast on Nov. 23. We have a television. We do not have cable television. The only way we will be able to watch in our home during the simulcast is to get cable TV. (Optimum is the provider in our area; they provide our cable internet.) Is it possible to get cable TV for just one month? How simple is it to do? [more inside]
I have cable for the internet and a basic cable package. I want to just keep my internet but get rid of the cable tv and go with an antenna package for HDTV. I have Roku and Tivo, now to tie this in with a cool antenna and associated hardware to save a few bucks! Any tips or suggestions for an antenna novice would be appreciated, thanks.
I have a Tivo Premiere. I have Comcast. How do I avoid throwing my TV out the window in frustration? [more inside]
Wall<>Cable Modem = Good. Wall<>Splitter<>Cable Modem + TV = Intermittent failures where the modem goes off line. What can I do to improve this? Is there such thing as a lower power splitter? Better cables? And did my cable company make a mistake? More details below!>>> [more inside]
One of the longest-running modern-day battles is that of Cable vs. Dish Network. Both seem to basically offer the same stuff. Most everything I read says Dish Network offers everything Cable does, except it's cheaper. Which is better and why? Does Dish Network really go out when it rains or is cloudy? Do you have experience with both and a compelling reason for one over the other? Thanks in advance.

I had an idea in which I set up a Slingbox on a spare cable box at my parents' house and watch it on the TV at my house, thus eliminating my own need to subscribe to cable. Is this crazy enough to work? [more inside]
I am interested in alternatives to traditional cable/satellite television. We only have one really bad cable provider in the area that I do not want to get cable from. Satellite TV is not what I want either for a variety of reasons. Netflix, iTunes and Amazon TV don't offer the shows I am interested in like Discovery Channel, MTV, Nickelodeon, Nick at Nite, news channels, etc. Is there a way to stream this kind of programming from the internet? I am willing to pay for the service but I cannot find anywhere legitimate to get something like this from. Thanks

Can anyone recommend a good, inexpensive English-Spanish lexicon of TV/Cable/Broadcast technology terms? My sister does Spanish-language technical support for a large TV cable and Internet provider. She's first-language fluent in Spanish, but like many Spanish-speaking U.S. natives, leans heavily on Spanglish for many of the neologisms ("el remote") of the electronic age. [more inside]

I want to record TV. I’ve thought about too many options – exhaustively - from old school VCR to Mac Mini/HTPC setups. I don’t care about HD, I just want basic recording, and not to pay more for cable. My head is full of options and I need perspective. Help. [more inside]
We want to replace our cable TV with a Mac Mini. We watch mostly documentaries, cooking shows and cartoons. She loves cheesy horror movies, and I love baseball and pro football. Apart from Netflix, what do we need to live cable-free?
We bought an used Insignia TV and hooked it up to our comcast cable box. Unfortunately, we can get a picture but it is only in black and white. I've taken the cables in the back and moved them around and the only result I can get is in one of the inputs there is a small amount of color that shows on the screen that correlates to sound vibrations. I've used the remote to turn up the color and it has no effect. What can I do to fix this?
When I pulled out one of the component cables from my TV today, this thing came with it. I can see by the jack left in the TV that probably all I need to do is gently push it back in, but given that the 2 flanges on the thing are different, and I think it's an electrical contact, I'm pretty sure there's one right way for it to go, and one wrong. I'm hoping for some guidance on which is which. [more inside]

Hello. I have lost my remote for my Sylvania SRT 2319 and am trying to program my Time Warner Universal remote to work with it. I have found the code and the remote will power on and off the TV but it will not control any other features. Any time I press the channel key or a number key the CBL (cable) device button blinks, like it's not registering as a TV button. Does that make sense? What can I do?
