I want an HTC Magic, badly. T-Mobile is sitting on it for probably the rest of the summer in order to prevent cannibalizing G1 sales. Frequently, when people call my cell phone, I hear it ring at my end but they don't at their end. There's just... nothing. This has been going on for about the last month, and I'd say it happens on about 1/3 of the calls to my phone. Is the problem with my phone or with my service provider? [more inside]

I have an HP iPAQ 2750. Around the same time it was manufactured, lots of aftermarket hardware and software came out with promises to enhance the device. One of those applications was a GPRS/GSM plug in modem (via the CF Card slot) and software from a company called Enfora. The modem was bundled with software from a company called BVRP. There was other software without a modem which also installed phone tools on the PDA from another company called WebToGo. [more inside]

It's come the time to buy a new cellphone. I have a RAZR V2 and it's falling apart. My Verizon contract is up in November. Should I re-up with Verizon and stay on my family plan or should I break off and/or go to another carrier? And what phone should I look into? All I know is that I do not want a huge fold out QWERTY keyboard like a 16-year-old girl with a Sidekick and probably do not want a Motorola. [more inside]

iPhone - AT&T/Cingular or T-Mobile (USA) ? I'm in NYC, peak minutes usage < 300, 50% of minutes to same 4 numbers, data usage likely to be high. Criteria: minimize the following, in order of priority: cost, dropped calls/network weirdness, customer service craziness, crap-tastic contracts. I'm obviously fine with hacking/unlocking my iphone.

I keep hearing from people that I can use my TMobile Blackberry 8700G as a modem (I will probably get the TMobile Curve when it comes out in a few weeks, if that changes the answer or my options much.) by routing the traffic for my laptop through it, either using Bluetooth or a USB to mini-USB cable. But I also hear that I have to do some hacks or hide it from TMobile or and other things like that. [more inside]

I have a Nokia smartphone. I have T-Mobile. But T-Mobile doesn't sell my phone, so they won't give me a smartphone unlimited data plan and I'm stuck with the much more expensive Total Internet package. But if I log in to T-Mobile's self service site, I can tell them I have any damn phone I like. So if I do that, and tell them I have a Blackberry or a Sidekick, and pick the BB or SK smartphone plans, is there some technical reason it won't just work? Am I in any serious danger of cancellation by violating the TOS or anything else?

How do I use my 'always on' internet on my mobile phone as a modem for my laptop? I own the T-mobile equilvant of the HTC TyTN with Windows Mobile 5.0 and a HP laptop with Windows XP. On my mobile phone I have T-mobile 3G internet with always on functionality. I would like to use my mobile phone as a modem with internet connection for my laptop so I can access the internet with my laptop no matter where I am. I connect to my mobile phone with an USB cable (I tried bluetooth but couldn't get it to work...). Does anyone know how to accomplish this? Maybe there are software applications that can do this for me? All tips are welcome!

My (non-existent) ideal device is a Treo -- with wifi, GSM/GPRS, and either EDGE or HSDPA -- on a service plan that includes flat-rate unlimited data, flat-rate international data roaming, and a small amount of voice usage inside the U.S. (say 100 mins/month). So, in the real world, is a Blackberry 8800 on T-Mobile my best choice for a plan starting in spring 2007? [more inside]

A very good friend of mine had her cellular telephone stolen the other day, and by the time she noticed this and reported the theft to T-Mobile, the thief had made many hundreds of dollars worth of calls to a foreign nation. After many calls back and forth, T-Mobile says they are doing her a great favor by waiving 25% of the costs but she is responsible for the rest. Is this right? Why would they treat a supposedly valued customer of several years this way? The T-Mobile reps tell her there is no appeal process or ombudsman; does anyone know if this is really true?

Cell phone question. Got an LG from Verizon -- but I suck at typing on phones, and the thought of entering the umpteen dozens of contacts I have has scared me from entering all but a few.

When I was on T-Mobile, you could add contacts online. Is there any quick and easy way for me to do something like this? I just want to type them, since it would take me six and a half years to enter them manually.
