Internet Domain Filter: In 2000, I started a company (Company A) and registered a matching top-level domain. In 2005, I converted Company A into a holding company, and started a second company, which is now the operating vehicle for our consulting business. The domain registration for Company A will soon expire. Is there any point maintaining the registration? The domain name won't have a high resale value and I'm not planning on resurrecting Company A as a public business. Is there anything I'm missing?

I have some hosting. I use oldtld.com currently as a TLD, to point people at it. On oldtld.com, there are several subdirectories, which I'll call /olddir1, /olddir2, etc.
What I want is to be able to buy a new TLD - newtld.com - and point it at the same hosting, yet keep the two separate. [more inside]

Why are some churches in the U.S. using the ".cc" Top Level Domain (instead of .com or .org) on their churches' web sites? Isn't .cc the country code for the Cocos Islands off of Australia?

It is a commonly held belief that enough Internet users foolishly expect every Internet domain to end in ".com", it would be a mistake to purchase and promote a domain ending in ".org" unless one can also purchase the corresponding domain in the ".com" TLD to redirect these foolish Internet users to the proper URL. Is there any statistical evidence that there are so many foolish Internet users out that that this is a necessary practice? Or is this merely unsubstantiated myth?

Any word on what the some of the most credible, competent, and friendly domain name registrars are for European TLDs? Looking at registering some stuff for Spain, Portugal, France, and Italy, possibly Germany and others later.

I have managed to install my beloved Firefox on my "heavily secured" computer at work and told it to use the company proxy server (we can only go through port 80). I'm not supposed to be using anything other than IE, but, well, you understand. The problem is that I can't access any .net domains (.com, .org, .co.uk and any other TLD works as it should) with Firefox, while this is not a problem in IE. Using the IP number of a .net website brings me to the site just fine, so it seems to be a DNS issue, but I have never heard of a TLD requiring its own DNS server or a special port. I can't ask the company IT people as I'm not allowed to use FF in the first place, and the FF support forums have never even answered my question. Any ideas?
