We're looking at moving into a shared office building with a couple of other companies, in total about 40 people plus a small specialized school with another 50 students or so. This is a very nice opportunity, and I've been tasked with figuring out the shared network and related (phone, access control) infrastructure. I have a pretty good idea of what to get, but I'm not as up to date on options as I used to be, and I might be missing stuff. Help me with suggestions for good, economical equipment options. The pic of the switch described in this question is here. I have these 16mm diameter switches with these tiny little contacts, with tiny little holes in each. I have to connect wires to all of them, and soldering onto them is really tough because they're so little and so close together. I have a bunch of them to do so I was wondering if there's some sort of ultra-tiny female spade solderless connector that exists, or some other sort of solderless connector that would allow me to skip all that soldering. If so, where could I buy them? [more inside]
Can anyone identify a manufacturer who makes these toggle switches? I'd like to get ahold of some, and want to know if they're still being manufactured, or, alternatively if there's a good source for them. This photo is of a Technics RS-263AUS cassette tape deck. Thanks for any help!
Every summer and winter, random weather related power failures (as well as those caused by people knocking down power poles - it's rural with lots of winding roads) leave the house without power for hours to days. So I'm thinking about getting a Generac 8kw gas-powered portable with a manual transfer switch. A Generac 10kw propane powered installed with an automatic transfer switch is at least 6 six times more expensive and I don't see much of an extra benefit. [more inside]
A month ago, my family moved into a new (to us) home. It is a one story ranch, with a straightforward layout. The house has three motion-activated security lights along the roofline. The lights are hardwired. I have found the indoor switch that activates light #1- no problem there. I cannot find the switches that activate the other two lights. [more inside]

One of the power windows in my car has stopped rolling up. The windows are controlled by a dual switch in the center console. The driver's side works, and the passenger "down" works, but the passenger "up" switch does not. I tried replacing it with a new switch I ordered online, and was able to get the window 90% up, but then that new switch abruptly stopped working. Is this likely to be a case of a bad part, or is there something wrong with my electrical system? More details below. [more inside]

Hey all, this is a tough one. The long and short of it is, my work at the ad agency has grown stale and my biggest client is revving up its own internal digital strategy team. I want to be on that team and there are several positions that would be a good fit for me. Among other things, I would have a better commute and more money; plus the invigorating effect of a change of scenery, work, etc. BUT I have to clear it with my bosses at the agency. [more inside]
Hi, I have 1 keyboard, 1 mouse, and two desktop computers to use with a 3-monitor setup. I would like to know the best way to use a triple monitor setup where I can click a button and switch back and forth between desktop A and desktop B for the single keyboard/mouse and the monitors. Consolidating files onto one machine is not an option. Are there devices or hubs I could plug the keyboard/mouse/monitors and desktops into that can do this? Amazon links would be great.
Dryers use electricity when plugged in, even when they're turned off. In our old house, I could reach the plug; in this house, I can't. Is there a money-saving solution that doesn't involve re-wiring or the electrical box? In the U.S., so dryer has a 220 plug. (Dryer isn't broken - asking about a switch between wall and dryer.) The new boyfriend would like me to be more switch-y (and peg him, too) and I'd like to be able to provide that to him but past abuse makes me very adverse to causing people pain even if I know they'd enjoy it and also puts me off being the penetrative partner. How do I enjoy being the dominant/penetrative partner? I love it when the BF dominates me and causes me pain (a not-insane amount and he's always very respectful of my boundaries and comfort) so how can I become more comfortable reciprocating pain to him and how can I become comfortable with being the penetrative partner? I have a 2010 Ford Fusion and a lot of electrical gadgets which plug into the cigarette lighter. The car I previously drove (for over ten years) had a cigarette lighter which turned itself on and off with the ignition. The Fusion, however, leaves the lighter socket on all the time. Because of this, I sometimes forget to unplug things from the cigarette lighter and end up with a dead battery after a day or two with the car parked. Is there some relatively-easy way for me (or a mechanic) to re-wire the cigarette lighter so that it powers itself on and off with the ignition? If so, how? [more inside]

We lost our network analyst recently, and he left us with almost no documentation. The network is having some issues, and we are troubleshooting, but we cannot get access to one of our switches - it's a Dlink DGS-3450. No problem, right? Well every manual with instructions I can find via Google online is coming up with a 404. We found reference to an addendum with instructions - no luck. Has anyone done this successfully? Any ideas how to do it without losing configs? The configs are crucial - we can't lose them. Tech support for D-link is closed. Thanks in advance!
I have a Mac Pro set to DHCP manual assign and a certain IP address that cannot change. I also have a printer plugged into a certain network jack; IP address less important. I am moving the physical location of the Mac Pro near this printer and the printer's network jack is the only one available. I'll have to plug both of these machines into the same network jack via switch/router. What switch/router is the right one to buy in 2013 (bonus if I can find it at Best Buy) and what the right way to set this up so the Mac Pro is still reachable at the same IP address on the network?

Why can't devices on my new 8-port switch get internet access on my network? I’ve got a new wired network set up in my house and am fine tuning it, getting everything to connect to the internet… Main computer and xbox are working (connected directly to D-Link DGL4300 Wireless router), but the Tivo and anything plugged into the new switch-based jacks aren’t getting to the internet, though they see the network. Please help me understand this bizarre home electrical-wiring problem, and how to fix it. I've got a mid-50s house. Anyone have experience switching from a smartphone to a feature phone? My current phone is a Blackberry. (Its Blackberry-ness isn't the issue.) I pay AT&T $90 month. I bought an iPad 6 months ago and my use of the phone has dropped precipitously. I initiate one or two voice calls per week and just a few texts. I never user it to browse the web. I do use it to check mail but I never respond to or initiate email on it. I travel with the iPad, so that relegates the phone to the bench on those occasions, too. In other words, I have much more phone than I need and I'm paying ATT $90 each month for services I barely use. So, I'm thinking about terminating the contract and going pay-as-you-go with a cheaper phone. Has anyone done the same thing for the same reasons? How did it work out? Did you regret it?
