itchy itchy baa baa baa

Woolrich stuff has actual wool in it. I have received a gift of a lovely sweater and a very nice coat that are from Woolrich. I can wear a long sleeve thin shirt under the sweater, but what about the coat? i don't always wear long sleeves and the coat is a 3-season. Is there something I can put over the wool part inside, like iron-on felt or nylon or something? I received this coat.

On the inside, there is some wool right where your arms go into the sleeves, but not the whole way down the inside of the sleeves. It's super itchy. I've always found wool to be super-itchy and some other threads on here lead me to believe it's an allergy, that wool is not really itchy (?!).

So, hive mind, what would you recommend I wear under the sweater that won't make super super hot? Some sort of wicking layer, like for running or skiing?

And for the coat, is there anything I can put over it or some way to make it less itchy when wearing short sleeves?

Men's sweater styles & patterns

Looking for an image of a kind of men's sweater I'd like to have made. It's a pullover, with straight rows, round neck, but with a 2-3 row ring where the shoulders meet the torso. I've only seen these in solid colors. The one I once had was heavy, water proof, warm and wonderful. I saw an image recently on the Net but failed to bookmark it correctly and cannot now find it. What I'm looking for is probably European, maybe British.

What is this FLAMES logo from?

I bought a sweater at a thrift store with a flame logo on it and the word "FLAMES" under the logo (Photo). The sweater was made by Champion, so I'm thinking it's a sports team logo. The only Flames team anyone seems to know is the Calgary Flames, and this doesn't appear to be their logo. What did the logo come from?

nice mens jumper sweater in UK

UK Clothes - where to get a nice chunky mens wool jumper? Hi. I'm looking for a pure wool jumper for myself. Chunky, warm, hardwearingish. Probably grey, but would consider other colours, mixes.

Will pay a bit for a quality one with a decent cut, but would rather not pay for designer unless it's on sale.

I'm a fairly young guy, slim build.

Any ideas?

Cozy sweaters in NYC.

Where can I buy a cozy warm/large/high quality/handmade old style wool/cotton sweater (not stylized or gender specific) in NYC? I am looking for a nice colored (no patterns, I can't stand them) sweater (purple, brown, or maybe green). Is there a custom sweater shop somewhere I don't know about?
If you can name somewhere in lower manhattan you get a virtual hug. Hugs also for unoverpricedness (not to sacrifice quality though!).

Funky (smelling) fibers.

How do I de-stink the armpits of my sweaters? I tend to wear sweaters frequently in between washings. Recently I've been wearing a couple of heavier-weight sweaters pretty often, in and out of significant temperature changes. This, combined with prolonged use, has caused the armpits of a couple of these sweaters to remain stinky, even after washing.

Any tips or tricks to dissolve the funk? I've seen this thread, but as all the sweaters in question are black, and a myriad of fibers (one is acrylic/cotton, one acrylic/mohair/nylon, one acrylic/nylon/wool), I want to use something that won't bleach, fade, shrink, or otherwise damage the fibers. I assume vinegar would be safe, but other remedies like peroxide are a bit more questionable.

Also, I don't have access to Febreze, Oxy Clean, or any other spiffy US-oriented cleaning agents, so simpler remedies appreciated.

How do I wash this sweater?

Grownup has never washed a nice sweater. Help. OK, so I got a couple of nice merino & cashmere sweaters for Xmas. Maybe as a hint that the wool/woolblend sweaters I owned were no longer socially acceptable, having been worn for years & never been washed. (blush)

I poked around a bit on the boards, and there are lots of things mentioned for sweaterwashing, then contradicted, then ???

So I need some votes:

1) Drycleaners, espcially with the cashmere
2) Dryel at the laundromat
3) Wash 'em in the sink, then spread out to dry
3a) with woolite
3b) woolite is death, buy special goo at the yarn store
4) write in candidate here

I have another sweater question while i'm at it.
All my sweaters, cotton, wool, whatever, make me look like I've got a "muffin top". (Chest fits, waist at hem/ribbing fits - but they bag out above the waist so that it looks like I'm trying to smuggle a bicycle tire underneath.)
I don't actually have a muffin top, and if I tug the hem down, everything is fine for a few minutes until it rides up and I'm back to dumpy again.
What am I doing wrong here?

Looking for hippie stores in WV.

I need help finishing my Christmas list. Looking for stores in Charleston, WV. I've waited too long to do some of my Christmas shopping. I'm looking for a shop that sells those big, colorful, handmade, wool sweaters. Often times they are made in Ecuador or other South American countries. Sometimes they are in fair trade shops (couldn't find any in WV via google) and sometimes they are sold in what can best be described as a 'hippie store.' Posters, tapestries, patchwork skirts, silver jewelry, etc.

Any tips are appreciated.

Where can I buy a ridiculous Christmas sweater? I'd like to have one of those ugly holiday sweaters people wear at parties while they drink eggnog. They seem to be in abundance in the memories of my youth, but I have no idea where I could find one now. Is this something department stores simply carry? I feel Macy's is too hip (and probably too expensive). I'm in NYC.

How do I ensure that I stay healthy while spending time outdoors during the winter?

How do I ensure that I stay healthy while spending time outdoors during the winter? I love being outdoors, walking around the neighborhood, taking the train into town and sauntering along the streets.

However, the cold weather of fall and winter has had the unfortunate effect of turning me into a couch potato. I've started fearing the outdoors because even though I dress in layers and never feel cold, I still manage to get at least a minor case of cold/sore threat. I think it may have to do something with the fact that I walk briskly and work up a sweat. ( That is phenomenon is exacerbated by layers of clothing)

So what should I do to avoid the potential cold/sore threat?
(Btw, I usually wear a coat with a warm sweater underneath, and a hat. Also, sweatpants underneath my khakis when it's really freezing out. When the time comes, gloves and a scarf will come into the equation.)

Help! I spilled laundry detergent on my dry-clean only sweater! I don't know how serious this concern should be...but I'm worried its very dire!
I accidentally spilled a greater-than-insignificant amount of Tide laundry detergent on my favorite cable-knit wool sweater. Does hope exist? The dry cleaners are closed today...can they get laundry detergent out of dry-clean-only clothing? What should I do??
Thick, well-made sweatshirts

My favorite sweatshirt company has gone out of business - who else makes quality, thick sweatshirts? I have a collection of sweatshirts with college logos on them, all made by a brand called "Galt Sand." They're fantastic - thick, but not lined with an extra layer; not hooded, no extra pocket in the front... Just a great-feeling, thick sweatshirt. Galt Sand, however, was bought out by Starter in 1996 (that may demonstrate the quality of these shirts, I've been wearing them almost every day since the early 90s). But they're getting old, and starting to show their age.

Is anyone else familiar with this brand? Any ideas where I could find similarly-made shirts, or who makes them?

Advance thanks.

How do I describe a sweater?

Help me describe a sweater. I'm looking for ways to describe a sweater. Last week a companion saw a woman wearing a sweater and fell in love with the sweater. I asked the woman where she got the sweater and I was told that it was a Betsey Johnson. The sweater was long sleeved, crocheted, was open weaved over most of the sweater body, and had something vaguely ruffly going on with the ends of the sleeves. I looked through style.com's archive of Betsey Johnson's shows and the product section of betseyjohnson.com and I don't see anything like it. I plan to visit the local Betsey Johnson store and have a look around. Meanwhile, I'd like to find ways to narrow my very broad google searches. I'm pretty sure that the sweater going to be out of my price range but I'd like to identify the style of the sweater now while my memory is fresh.

Knitted sweater pattern: why can't I find you?

SweaterFilter: I am searching for a specific pattern for a knitted sweater similar to this. I see these types of sweaters around and I'm sure patterns for them exist. Unfortunately, I've had a hard time finding one. My goal is to get the basic pattern and change it slightly to customize the images on it (although I kinda like the squirrel motif). I'm not looking to buy the sweater but rather to make it on my own (and one for a friend).

I have the impression that these were extremely popular in the 60's and have memories of seeing many different patterns (such as deer, moose, ducks, eagles, etc) on the same style of sweater. If not a pattern then just the name of this style of sweater so I can ask the staff at my local knitting shop for more info?

Can I handwash my merino wool sweater? [mi] I have a really nice ribbed pullover made of merino wool. The label says dry clean only. I want to avoid a trip to the cleaners if possible because: 1) I don't think dry cleaners get the clothes really clean; 2) sweaters never regain the original shape without water; and 3) it's a pain in the butt to go to the dry cleaners and expensive too.
Where can I get this Norweigan sweater?

I am in love with a Norwegian sweater...[mi] The object of my affection.
But as you can see there is a problem. It is quite expensive. Any ideas where I can get one like it, with the cuffs and all?
