Having watched Thunderbolts of the Gods, and found it quite eye-opening, I'm wondering if there are compelling reasons to accept or not to accept the possibility that the Sun is made of electrical plasma, rather than being a nuclear furnace.

I'm looking for a holiday destination. Last weeks of October where I can hike (mountains), bike (atb) and learn diving (padi). No resorts or too much luxury, just basic accomodation. I'm alone so it would be nice to meet more travellers.
Doe you have suggestions?

Before I knew anything about India, I dated an Indian guy named Bitu (long i, long u: bee-too). I remember him telling me that it wasn't his real name, that it was a nickname and it meant 'son' in his language (or, possibly, 'sun'). I neglected to ask what language that was... and now I really want to know.

When are the sun's UV rays weaker: from 10am to 11am, or from 5pm to 6pm? (East coast USA, this month.) Beach has strict swimming hours, 10am-6pm. I'm looking for which is the better hour to go swimming -- regularly over the course of June -- in a bathing suit, very-wide-brimmed solid straw hat, and sunglasses, but no sunscreen.

I'm working on a short story, a sort of parallel to Inconstant Moon by Larry Niven, that involves the Sun going nova, and its effects on Earth's last minutes/hours/days. I'm starting to wonder if his description of what would happen if the Sun went nova is 100% accurate, so I'd like to pick it apart. Secondarily, what would happen if the sun turned into a red giant, instead?

How do I take sunrise/sunset photos with a DSLR without blinding myself? I've heard that looking through a camera at the sun is bad for your eyes since it's magnifying the light. So how do I safely take pictures of a sunrise or sunset with a DSLR? Is it really that dangerous to look through the lens? Am I damaging my eye by doing so?

Yeah so I went the complete cheapo route and bought an Initio KM-910UW SCSI card from TigerDirect.com and I'm pulling the rest of my hair out. I can successfully see all 4 fujitsu and 2 seagate 18 GB drives in their Ctrl-I (like Adaptec) BIOS. I've got zero conflicts in Device Manager and my Events are so clean minus what's mentioned below.
No matter what combinations I try, e.g. disks/slots/drivers/try or buy software from download.com. I'm unable to get more than one drive to format and work correctly. I've been able to format in any slot w/only one drive but as soon as I add a second or even a third or all six, the second drive will refuse to format and/or the system will probe to no end thus hanging the boot process or after boot get a BSOD or chkdsk after a reboot on the 1st drive...
The main error in event viewer I get is that the card is not replying during the timeout limitation - "The device, \Device\Scsi\ini910u1, did not respond within the timeout period." Unfortunately my main computer BIOS (or the SCSI based BIOS) has no threshold for me to increase as far as timeout values go.
My first hope is that b/c I'm such a Windows hater is that I'm missing something there. I'm a Sun SysAdmin and ex Oracle programmer/pseudo DBA.
I'm desperately hoping that someone, somewhere has been able to get a Sun 6-drive Multipack to work w/a Windows XP IDE-based workstation.
I'm properly terminated, I've tested so many combinations of drives, cables and slots it's disgusting.
Thanks in advance for _any_ ideas, including a new Adaptec card that will hopefully do the trick.
Windows always defeats my Unix logic...

Sun is EOL'ing the V480 and V880, replacing them with slightly faster models (the V480 and V890). 480s and 880s run on 110-240VAC, but 490s and 890s are 200-240VAC only. Can anybody explaing the logic for this change?

FreckleFilter: Just curious, really - I am a fair English lass, and therefore after a day in the sun I notice lots of freckles on my shoulders that have presumably appeared during the day. I am always amazed that they appear so quickly. My question is, if I constantly looked at my shoulders, would I see them popping up or do they appear gradually? And why little patches of pigment like that, anyway?
