I am convinced - or I've convinced myself - that there was an xkcd diagram that showed winter as unbearably cold and long, summer as unbearably hot and long, and a very short burst of spring and autumn where temperatures were just right. Does this actually exist, or is it some other cartoon, or have I imagined something as real?

We have done a long weekend at the Delaware shore with friends for the past few summers, and would like to try a new place. We'd like to go somewhere where we can swim with toddlers and babies (so no rough ocean--the Delaware bay was great for this) and is not too far a drive for either of us. [more inside]

There are summer and winter versions of big sports events such as the Olympics and the X Games. Are there spring and fall-based sporting events too? If not, why not? Are there any sports that are specially seasonal outside summer/winter?

Summer fling is over and I am sad that it is not continuing into the fall. I am also unhappy about how it ended and feeling unresolved. We never discussed how/if we would stay in contact and so far the past week there has been no contact. Want to move past this but I need advice for how to do this. [more inside]

Once again, summer is half over, and I feel as though I'm missing it completely. Yikes! When I was a child/teenager I felt as though summer went on and on and I was completely steeped in it. Since I've become an adult, I feel as though it never happens. I know I'm not going to ever recover the "endless summer" feeling I had as a child, but I need your advice on what to do so that when fall is here I can feel as though I've had a summer. The organization I run rents a large, old theater for once-a-week film screenings. Problem: the air conditioning is broken, and the theater doesn't have the capital to fix it before the summer ends. But we have screenings scheduled weekly through the end of August. Are there any good ways to keep a large space cool without a working AC system? We're about to have our second baby...basically any day. We're a little late to the game, but we'd like to have some meals in the freezer for the postpartum period, like we did with our first. But our first was born in February, when things like soups, stews and lasagne make a lot of sense. This is summertime, in a house with no air conditioning. What the heck do we eat? [more inside]

We have my 90 year old father in law over for dinner once a week. He suffers from Parkinson's, which has progressed to the point where he is having trouble swallowing; but we soldier on. We've had good luck with risotto, tuna noodle casserole and chicken & dumplings - but those seem like fall-winter type foods. Do you have any good summer soft textured/casserole-y recipes?

It's been a long time since I've had a wok. (At some point, the old one became repurposed as a popcorn popper and, while it was very good at that task, it was no longer useful for its intended purpose.)
Besides popcorn, what are your favorite things to cook in your wok? Specific recipes welcome, or general ideas, with sauce ideas being of particular value. I'm not huge on seafood, but anything else is okay. (We cook heavy on the veggies and tofu.) [more inside]

As the title states I've got a wedding in Charleston, SC in July. I'm planning on getting a blue seersucker jacket anyways, so I've been looking on how to put this all together. I've come up with two ensembles
that I think would work best.
The main differences between the two are the pants really...white pants vs blue. The shoes coordinate appropriately as white shoes/pants wouldn't really work. The shirt choices, white or pastel pink are negotiable, as is the bowtie vs regular tie. I'd likely pocket square it up as well. Opinions? I'm open to any other styles or ways to arrange it all.
If it bears any relevance my girlfriend will be wearing this

He is 15 1/2, too young to get a McMinimum wage franchise job at In-N-Out or Target and a bit too old/mature for 'camp'. Would love some suggestions on what, on earth, this child is going to do for 2 months. What did you do during your summer before Junior year? [more inside]

My roommates and I are going abroad for the month of July. We're American college students; we'd like to go somewhere warm and cheap for a month. The thing is, we're not necessarily looking to go backpacking the whole time. I'm searching for a place that's super cheap, warm, and close to the ocean where we can write/relax/make music for a month. Shoestring budget here, and we don't mind dumpster diving. In the past I've sublet an apartment in Paris for two months for really cheap and just lived there to explore the city. Does anything spring to mind that's coastal and doable? [more inside]

Girlfriend and I are looking to get away this August, and we're looking for destinations. We want to spend ~10 days relaxing, experiencing some natural beauty, being warm, eating delicious food (both of the restaurant variety and the pick-up-bread-and-cheese-from-the-local-vendor variety) and generally unplugging from day-to-day life. Not big partiers, but we'd frequent the local cafe/pub. Something like a little cottage in the south of France would be our dream, but we're working with a budget of ~$4000 all-inclusive, so France may have to wait. We're 30ish and live in Boston. Idea us please!

So the days are getting longer and warmer, and I find myself in the need of some decent clothing, varying from casual to business casual.
I'm on the heavier side and thus prefer darker, more muted tones, but am open to other options. I'm also not a fan of logos but will pay a premium for good quality and easy to care for clothing.
An important consideration is that I REALLY prefer long-sleeve shirts and longer pants (i.e. I don't need more shorts), as I feel they make me feel more put together. They still need to be "breathable" though! [more inside]

Hello! We are both academics, and have the summer to spend pretty much anywhere in the world. (We're going to be writing most of the summer; location is not important, but internet is.) We've spent a fair bit of time in the US, England and Ireland, and have travelled but not lived anywhere else for a substantial amount of time.
Considerations would be money (cheaper would be better, but we feel we could live on a budget in say, Paris); season (Paris may not be so great in the summer if it's hot and touristy); good internet (see above); and healthcare (one of us has a minor health condition that may need occasional treatment -- we're not talking Mayo Clinic but a place where there are some reliable doctors. Our insurance covers us outside the US.) Weather -- i.e., not crazy hot, or if it is hot, AC -- is a smaller consideration.
We like both cities and country -- no obvious preference. Oh, and we don't have any kids.
Any ideas? Thanks!

I rented an apartment in Bonn on very short notice, and it turned out to be a loft. When he weather was cold it was ok, but once it got to 85 degrees it became unliveable.
Of course there is no ac, so me and my pregnant wife went to a hotel till it cools off.
Is there anything we can do regarding the rent? Do you think it's reasonable for someone to rent out a loft without mentioning that it is one? If I can't sleep in the apartment and he offers no solution but a fan, is this ok somehow?
I was referred to this guy through the institute we are visiting, so maybe the secretaries can make him pay if I have a case.
