Can anyone recommend a WinXP-friendly solution -- ideally shareware, freeware, or open source -- for automatically recording online radio streams such as shoutcast at pre-selected times, a few times a week? I currently use a WinAmp plugin that does recording manually, breaking the tracks up into individual mp3s, but I would like to automate the process for particular broadcasts.

I'm looking for a streaming radio station playing the latest in Arab pop music. There used to be a fantastic one called Beirut Mood Radio a number of months ago. Sadly, it disappeared without a trace. Something in the vein of Hifa Wehbe would be fantastic. A shoutcast (or icecast) stream would be preferable. Windows Media doesn't work for me. Many thanks.

Why can't I get song titles to display when I listen to streams as a user in Winamp (for pc)? Googled like mad, checked Winamp forums..most of the info pertains to people who are dishing out the streams, not playing them back. Right now I'm using the brand-spankin' newest version, but I've had this problem for years, I guess, with various versions. [more inside]

Looking for a MP3 transcoder/server. My dream piece of software runs as an apache module or standalone http server. Clients request a resource, like http://server/content/filename.mp3, over normal HTTP, but the transcoder intercepts that request and streams the mp3 file at a set normalized bitrate and quality, transcoding if necessary, and only transcoding/serving the requested content. The resultant stream has to be compatible with shoutcast-style mp3 stream players (iTunes, Winamp, QuickTime.) Does it exist? [more inside]

At work we use Red Hat linux and I've used Shoutcast to stream music. Today, I tried it on a different computer than normal and got an error reading something along the lines of "digital rights conflict with mpeg1/mpeg2/mpeg3 and Red Hat will now allow you to stream music." Thinking it would still stream (silly me), I clicked the "Do not show me this again" box and now I can't stream anything off any website and can't see that error message to give better details. I also use xmms. Anyone heard of this or know what's up? Also, my normal computer is in use so can't test that one out.
