I just purchased a Mitsubishi WD-52525 DLP HDTV and the manual suggest that some problems might occur if a surge protector and AC line conditioner are not used. Any recommendations on satisfactory surge protectors and line conditioners (something in the mid-price range)? Also, could someone explain how a line conditioner works and why it is necessary?

Do you use your equalizer? If so how and why? When playing back music I tend to raise the treble and bass extremes a bit only to find that it makes another album, or even another song by the same artist sound like crap. So then I reset everything back to zero for a while and go through the same process. Is there a "proper" way to use an equalizer?

MP3-playing car stereos are ubiquitous. So where are the car stereos with a USB 2.0 port on the front that allow you to jack in a drive of whatever size you want? Are there unsurmountable technical difficulties with this? Anybody know of any hacks along these lines? [more inside]

My Bro-in-law installed my new car stereo for me, and all was good except every time I turned the car off, all of the settings reset. I figured out that it was because the memory (or constant) wire wasn't connected right, and I believe that he got it mixed up with the power antenna connection (which wasn't being used.) I switched it, and I think it is good now (it doesn't reset anymore), but how can I be absolutely sure I have done this properly? What can happen if this is messed up somehow? I have no experience with this kind of thing at all.

I was visiting a friend in NYC recently, and his car stereo displayed what was playing on the radio. It wasn't XM or anything like that. This was broadcast, showing the title, artist and call letters. How is this done, and where can I get a receiver that does this? Do all stations do this?
