How far has the plot of Game of Thrones the show gone beyond SoIaF?

Up to this point, I've been a show-only person, who tries to avoid spoilers, especially big ones. I am considering reading a Song of Ice and Fire --- but I still want to be surprised by the show. Some of the I've read have said that as of now (S05E09) several of the major plotlines in the book have gone well beyond what's in the books, and others have matched their book endings. So can you tell me how many of the main characters still have a lot of stuff left in their book plots? (A fuller explanation below, possibly spoiler sensitive.) [more inside]

Are there any tv fan sites split up by the season you've watched?

I enjoy fangirling over tv shows, but tend to binge watch years after the show is off the air. Is there a reasonably active tv show fan site around where I can noodle around based on the seasons the I've watched, and avoid spoilers? Asking because I just spoiled myself on The Killing while looking for pretty pictures of Joel Kinnaman. Naturally.

Monkey pull lever, monkey get what?

Many years ago, I used to play a game on my elderly Mac called "Enigma", by Freeverse. Not the modern Oxyd clone, but a version of Mastermind, where you had to deduce a pattern of colored dots given a certain number of hints. You put in your guess and pulled a lever; the game would taunt you, make weird comments, or throw a monkey wrench into things and screw up your guesses. The premise of the game was that you were solving the puzzles in order to open a golden briefcase. I never did manage to get the briefcase open--can anyone tell me what was inside? [more inside]

Season 2 of The Walking Dead: Watch them all, or watch selectively?

My boyfriend and I have just finished Season 1 of The Walking Dead. We have heard that Season 2 really drags, but Season 3 (so far) is amazing. So now we are torn: should we watch all of Season 2, or should we skip some episodes so as to reach Season 3 faster? If the latter, which episodes should we skip, and which are must-watch? The olympics are way less fun now.

Have olympic spoilers always been this bad? I'm so so very annoyed to already know the outcome of tonights gymnastics, just like I've inadvertantly known the outcome of almost every event I am interested in so far in these games. Even though I try to avoid the obvious spoiler media outlets, I can't ignore everything; esp not elevator tv's, the radio, or overheard coversations at the cubicle farm. Are the days of sitting on the edge of my seat during the evening broadcast, jumping for joy at an unexpected gold over? Or has it always been this way and I'm just catching up now?

Hey, it's the new Connie Willis novel -- get the forklift!

Despite being a great fan of Connie Willis, I had to give up on Blackout/All Clear when I was barely a hundred pages into All Clear because it had been such a meandering, repetitive read. (Others have been able to finish it, but share my frustration). Two brief, related questions: 1) Can someone please summarize what happened in the rest of the book? (Yes, SPOILERS!) and 2) What the hell is happening to Willis' editors, given that her novels have been getting more lengthy and repetitive? The Doomsday Book (1993) was perfectly sized for its story. Bellwether (1997) was a little repetitive, but it was relatively short and funny, and I enjoyed it overall. Her 2002 novel Passage, although a satisfying book in the end, was a maze of twisty little passages, all alike, for the first chunk as well. And then she delivered bouncing baby Buicks in the form of Blackout/All Clear this past year. Why? [more inside]

The Color of Money

AskMovieSpoilerFilter - So a while ago I was watching the excellent "The Color of Money" and I can't figure out exactly why the Tom Cruise character was so pissed at the Paul Newman character at the very end. [spoiler] Did Fast Eddie throw his match because he had been payed off to do so? Presumably simply resigning a match would arouse suspicions if that were the case. Or did he do it to avoid playing Tom Cruise in a tournament? I can't find a precis anywhere on the net that goes into that level of detail...
