My SO and I are receiving phishing emails on brand new email addresses. The addresses hadn't been given out to anyone when the first ones arrived. Are spammers just constructing likely email addresses and sending blindly? If not, how is this happening? [more inside]

"Reffy is a Windows-based mass referrer spammer.... Reffy comes with a pre-generated list of 3047 active blog websites...." My blog is on that pre-generated list. These people are spamming my logs and filling my referrer page with crap. Paypal has, unsurprisingly, not responded to reports that they're being used to transfer money to spammers, and .htaccess deny blacklists are no good when your URL is being distributed to spammers all over the place. So, (1) how do I stop them, and (2) what legal recourse would I possibly have to get my cut of the money they're making by putting my website URL in their application?

SpamFilter: I do some html stuff for friends who run an micro-business which involves lots of sales on eBay. The email address they use for their eBay sales is getting absoloutly flooded with spam - so much so that its nearly unusable. Given the restrictions on what kind of markup code you can put in eBay auctions and have work, can anyone suggest a way that we can somehow encode or camoflauge the address in the auction so that the spam decreases?
(I've already tried this to no avail - eBay's code turns it back into standard characters when we view the source code.)

ok, so I've had it up to here with nefarious spammers and other lowlifes spoofing my email addresses, causing my inbox to be filled with bounces and besmirching my and my company's good name. since we're all relatively smart and tech savvy, what exactly has to happen in order to get an authenticating email system to replace what's currently out there? is it an impossible dream?
