Is integrating an Xbox 360 into an existing computer monitor/speakers setup worth it? Or should I simply get a TV? [more inside]

Is there a free program that lets me broadcast "white noise" through my computer speakers?
My dogs are vigilant. They bark at noises outside the house, at all hours of the night. We have a "White Noise" machine in our bedroom, and it seems to block the sounds of the outside world quite well, but... our dogs sleep downstairs, and we sleep upstairs, and...we like the white noise machine for ourselves.
I was wondering if there were any sort of software that I could run on my downstairs PC, that would play similar white noise, to distract the pups, since my computer is in the room where they tend to sleep.
We'll probably buy another white noise machine, but in the meantime, can anyone help?
Free software would be preferred! (Or perhaps a website that plays white noise?)

I want to buy some speakers for an Ipod. Altec Lansing and Bose have both made speaker sets that use the docking port, so that's kind of cool, but are the speakers worth it? The Bose ones in particular are $300, which seems really high. Anyone have any experience with these? Or is it just better to buy some regular powered speakers and plug them into the earphone jack?

When I plug my iBook into my home stereo, it sounds horrible. Way bass-y and mumbly. I can tweak it - setting the iBook volume way low and messing with bass and treble on the stereo - so it's passable, but I'm wondering if I'm doing it wrong. (I plug it from the headphones jack into the Phono input.)

I want to buy these speakers, but it seems they are only available from Japan, and other far-eastern countries. Does anyone know of anywhere I can buy some that will ship to the UK (Amazon JP don't), and have a site in English? (Or be easily decipherable by a stupid Brit?) Alternatively, can anyone recommend any 2.0 or 2.1 speakers available to the UK that have optical digital input? [more inside]

Say you have two holes in your front car doors where the speakers should go. And say that even though you can wire them up, you have no way to attach them, because the geniuses that can design a car to drive 300,000 miles can't make interior door panels that don't shred like cardboard after a quarter of that. What would you do? [mas adentro] [more inside]
