I need to learn how to create a training video. It needs to be able to capture what I am doing on my computer screen, while recording my accompanying dialog. I see these all the time on youtube, but I am unsure how to get started. Where can I find some free training, and/or what kind of software/equipment do I need? Thanks!
6 year old deleted an important video from an ipad that had not been backed up. The video is not on icloud and the ipad doesn't have a "recently deleted" album. Free software options couldn't find it. I would pay a lot of money to get this video back. Is there software that's considered better than the rest?
When watching YouTube I often can't help but feel that I'm the only person in the world who doesn't use video editing software. I often rip and encode videos but I've yet to delve into the world of video editing. Mostly I want to remove 'mistakes' and extraneous stuff from videos of myself speaking. My requirement are that the apps are Windows-compatible. Freeware and payware apps are welcome. It's preferable that the apps are light on resources and noob-friendly, but these aren't requirements.
I'd like to make a time-lapse video from a bunch of very boring normal-speed video files produced by a cheap dash cam. What's the easiest way to do this? [more inside]
We have our windows 7 computer organized by user, and the folder system is a mess. I want to be able to browse photos, and videos, by one simple criteria, date taken. For example, want to see every picture and video on my PC That was taken on July 19, 2013. I don't want it to be tricked by the save date, the edit date, what folder it's in, or which camera was used. Only the date I snapped the shot. Fantastic would be some kind of timeline that you can very quickly scroll thru and it shows you some kind of date display where you're at.
I'm looking to create a short video (~30 seconds), to explain and promote a smartphone app/game. Both time and budget are quite limited. [more inside]
This is very video-game centric. I've worked on lots of games in a half dozen studios, and I've noticed that the architecture of game code with respect to sharing between projects is often ad-hoc and unplanned... [more inside]
I want to use a Google Hangout "On Air" for a project, but a tiny limitation is getting in the way. I would like to bypass the 'Press to Talk' functionality with a tiny browser script/hack/modification. My programming knowledge is tiny, but I am sure this could be done super super simply with a script loaded in the browser. Perhaps there's better solution. Any ideas? [more inside]

Are there any other VJ softwares that allow boygrouping? I am starting to research the possibility of using a planetarium for live visual interaction. Its difficult to find much information on whether there are VJ software's that allow boygrouping. But I'm already savvy with the needed planetarium dome distortion techniques. So far I've only been able to find that VVVV is able to do exactly what I need. Its unclear if Resolume is able to. If you have any insight or knowledge, it would be much appreciated! [more inside]
Can I Convert Video Footage to Animation? We are making a video documentary about college students and their attitudes towards dating and sex. Much of the documentary involves one interviewer interviewing different people on the same set. As you might guess, many of the potential subjects are reluctant to speak candidly onscreen, BUT, most of them will consent to their voices being used…I am wondering if there is some not-crazily-expensive way to take a video interview and, using some kind of software, animate it, turning the interviewer and subject into animated avatars. The animation does not have to be super super high quality—a fairly simple avatar for each of the people onscreen will do…We have a lot of technical and post-production people on the crew, so someone involved probably has access to almost any software program available…Any help—especially specific programs or plug-ins—would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Waa!? Pummelvision shut down! Now how am I supposed to convert my hundreds of wedding photos into a 2 minute video, with music? Please, please, please tell me there's an alternative way to do this - weather an automatic service, or a stand alone program, or some multi-step conversion nightmare. Thanks!
(Asking for a friend.) I need to find some sort of software that lets you both record yourself through a webcam (showing the image live in a window on the screen) and (not simultaneously) play a pre-recorded video in the same screen. Ideally it would have very minimalist buttons, or configurable buttons/toolbar. [more inside]

I have a degree in computer engineering but I would like to expand my programming expertise. I have a very solid understanding of syntax and procedural programming but I am looking for video training on system design techniques and other 'higher-level' concepts like testability. I have recently been going through the Khan Academy math courses and love it. I would like something similar for software design. It can be proper training or just really good podcasts. [more inside]

For a conference at work, I have been asked to get video clips from a variety of movies to play in between presenters. I am not sure how to proceed. I am assuming I would need to rip the DVD to my hard-drive, then select the 30-60 sec clip needed. I have a PC that is running Windows 7. What software do I need and how do I go about doing this? I am willing to pay (within reason) for software.

At my company, we recently started recording our internal talks/seminars. I want to set it up so that people can watch these later directly through their web browser. So, basically, looking for self-hosted video streaming server software (kind of like a YouTube/Vimeo from inside the firewall). Are there free alternatives to Adobe Flash Media Server? I'm currently looking at Apache with the h264 Streaming Module and JW Player. But is there anything that just works seamlessly? Copy an .MP4 file to a directory, give it a name in a form and a URL is generated for you?

I'm looking for OSX video editing software to use for preparing live music videos for uploading to YouTube. I want to overlay audio tracks from an audio recorder over video footage from a digital camera, cropping either as needed, and exporting the finished video as MPEG4 or H.264. Final Cut seems like overkill (and costs a fair bit), and iMovie doesn't offer the precision to easily align the separate tracks. Can anyone recommend a good, reasonably inexpensive package that will do the job?
