About once a week, my MacBook Pro wakes from sleep with a 1" black band on each side of the screen. If I restart it at this point, the black bands will go away. What is going on? [more inside]

Why does my MacBook occasionally restart when I close the lid to have it go to sleep? This MacBook is only a couple months old (the latest MacBook revision) running 10.4.10. It's very sporadic. I will close the machine, then, after a few seconds, I hear the Mac startup chime. Here, though, it pauses the startup routine. Then I open the lid and it finishes booting. Any thoughts?

MacBookSleepFilter: I like how plugging in a USB device will wake my MacBook from sleep, but I hate how unplugging a USB device does the same. Is there a setting I can change? [more inside]
