Novel recommendation filter: family dramas that aren't family dramas. I don't typically like "realistic" novels about people's real world problems, but I love it when stories can sneak in those stories through especially dramatic hooks. For example, the TV show
Six Feet Under used the funeral business to tell a family saga, John Le Carré's
A Perfect Spy was ostensibly a spy story, and Clive Barker's
Sacrament told a personal story through muted fantasy elements. So, with that in mind, what other
novels might I like?

*Spoiler Alert*Never Read This Thread (but none within the question itself): I am hoping to create a set of custom original miniature series "arcs", highlighting various things; characters/topics/ story-arcs/plot-arcs... any sort of "shortening of a longer series" that you love, or like or know.

Six Feet Under's third-season episode
"The Trap." What is the song Nate's singing out the car window along with the car radio as he and William Aaron Jaffe blast down the road? Ralph Covert and the Bad Examples' "Not Dead Yet"?
If not, does anyone know what it is?

On the first-season Six Feet Under DVD's, the theme song on the French-language audio track is in a slightly different key/tuning than the English- and Spanish-language audio tracks (like a little less than half a step, maybe) -- why? [a bit more MI]

Let's presume you just
had to acquire the third season of, oh, Six Feet Under, as quickly as possible. How would you do it?
