Me, being the family resident techie, has been asked to build an online shopping site for an in-law. EASY and FAST is the name of the game...what should I use? [more inside]

Is there a comprehensive shopping search engine? Ideally, it would search all shopping sites (including small vendors), ebay and craigslist. The prices would be regularly updated and sortable. I'd love an estimate of shipping costs, but that's optional.

Give me some more internet fads to check out! I've got my hipster pda tucked into the pocket of my moleskine, I'm using brasso to clean my ipod, but I haven't yet bought a pair of Vibram fivefingers. What other stuff is there to make/buy that you wouldn't know about without the internet?

I'd like to setup a webstore/portal script for local bands to sell their merchandise on. Can anyone recommend a solution? I'd prefer it to be LAMP based if possible.

I ordered something from an online merchant and when I received the package I found an empty box inside. An empty watch box, that is, as the item in question was a watch. When I called the company to complain, I could tell that the CSR was convinced I was a crook... (They promised a replacement, btw.)
Has something like this happened to anyone ? I was wondering how common this experience is.

Catalog spam. I ordered a bed frame online, and was pleased with the result. Since then, however, I've been getting a catalog of some sort or another (Pottery Barn, Anthropologie, Linens & Things, etc) almost every day - sometimes more than one. It's driving me crazy. Is there anything I can do short of changing address?

This has been asked before but the answers I need are a bit more specific. I bought my home (1920s bungalow) here in Sacramento 3 years ago, and the previous owners had DSL - in fact the DSL port in the house is exactly where I need/want my broadband connection to be. So - I just got an Airport Express card for my powerbook and a Airport Extreme basestation: do I want DSL or cablemodem? I use satellite for TV, not cable, and am not going to switch any time soon, so bundles are out. I am not going to run a website and need no static IP. Insanely high speed is not necessary, just something a hell of a lot faster than my current 56k. Prices? Service? Will SBC give me a deal on DSL since the install is already in place?

I want to get a new domain name that is cool but also sensible enough to go on CV's. However my imaginative skills aren't too great so I thought about using an expired domains list. However I am having difficulty finding a useful one [more inside...] [more inside]
