I have a task to do at work in the next few days that I would appreciate some advice on... I have a limited number of items (eg 6 of this one, 3 of that one etc) to share amongst a group of people. They have each given me a list of their preferences (1st, 2nd and 3rd preferences). What's the fairest system I can use to make sure that as many of them as possible are as happy as possible with what they receive? [more inside]

And I don't think I'm going to be the target of hackers anytime soon. But I am in a long distance not-really-kind-of-maybe-relationship with someone where we would like some kind of means of sharing photos and videos of a personal and sometimes-but-not-always sexy nature with one another without running into email attachment limits, needing to jump through a lot of hoops, accidentally sharing anything with the wrong people on social media, etc. What's our best bet? Since enthusiasm here was what got me interested in Simple banking to begin with, I'm surprised to see no discussion about recent dismaying info-sharing changes to their TOS (which all users must agree to) coming after they partnered with an outfit called CheckFreePay. Are other Simple users sticking with the service? [more inside]

I ripped a bunch of my DVDs to my Mac so that I could put the cases in storage. Currently, the files sit on my hard drive on my Mac Pro, and when I want to watch something, I copy the relevant file to a USB stick and walk it upstairs to the TV, where the Blu Ray player has a USB input. Is there an easier way to get these files onto my TV (and ideally, iPads/iPhones) than walking the file around the house? We're an all-Mac household. [more inside]

I'm sharing a project with a colleague via Dropbox.
I've followed the directions to do so. It's very simple.
This sounds obvious, but I want to be sure and I can't find it explicitly stated in the Dropbox documentation.
When this colleague has access to a particular folder, they don't (or can't) have access to my other Dropbox folders and files, right?

We're going to have some folks filling out the same simple form on a regular basis. Is there an app-based solution where they can enter the data and upload it securely to a central repository at the end of the day?
A web solution may have been easier, but we're worried connectivity might be an issue during parts of the day. We want users to tap an app and be able to fill out a bunch of forms, then upload them all (securely) at the end of the day. A simple, elegant, fast interface would be a real plus. [more inside]

Hey guys. I'm looking for a platform to share and organize readings for my study group online. I'd basically like to create a private library that each group member can access, add to, amend, and comment on. I would like to be able to tag and group PDFs around particular topics. I was thinking of a platform like Wikia
, but I feel this may be a bit much. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I am in my first year of teaching (2nd grade, so 7-8 year olds), and as part of our regular (or semi-regular) weekly routine, kids share something to the rest of the class in the morning. It's a part of the 2nd grade tradition here to have "themes" for each new week of sharing, and I'm running out of ones that inspire me. [more inside]

I have an ATV2. It asks me to turn on home sharing. I do. ATV insists that i turn on home sharing. It worked in my previous location excepting a few times, where I just unplugged the router and ATV and replugged back in. It worked here on initial setup the first try but a few days later this whole stuff happens. It worked again only after I did a complete factory reset. I have read many of the threads online and perhaps it is a bit of daftness on my part. This previous thread on mefi
helped the gentleman with his question. I didn't actually understand it very well. I have an iMac running Snow Leopard. The ATV does connect
to Netflix and all other things. Just not my computer. [more inside]

1) highlight portion of any website, including embedded youtube, images, text, what have you.
2) click bookmarklet.
Optional step 3) a new window pops up, allowing me to add a note.
4) a subscribeable RSS feed receives a new entry, whose title is a link back to the website in step one, and whose body is the highlighted portion from step one as well as my note.
5) share RSS with friends.
