Hi all, does anyone know which companies are the largest producers of hybrid corn seed in the US or world-wide? I am looking for a list of perhaps the top ten, along with the proportion of the market they make up. Thanks for your ideas.

WILD BIRD FEEDING - I love my bird friends and they provide endless fascination for my house cats. I have bought "waste-free" bird seed in the past and the birds love it. Problem is, the stuff is expensive and my money is tight. I assume making my own waste-free seed would be less expensive. While I can simply read the bag for the ingredient list, I have no idea what the individual seed proportions are. Anyone have a waste-free bird seed "recipe"? Not suet, just seeds please.

Help-us-name-filter: Our urban envirionmental group is working on a project to seed vacant land. We're using the seed ball technique pioneered by Masanobu Fukuoka--forming seeds, humus and clay into small balls which are tossed onto the ground or thown over a fence . We need a catchy name for the process, something better than "seed balls," and without the violent/militaristic/terroristic assoiciations of "seed bombs." [more inside]

This past summer I read about the amazing resilience of the Jerusalem Date Palm, a plant with legendary medical powers that was thought extinct. I have been searching for news and updates about this little guy since then, but I haven't had much luck. Are there any updates on the progress of this miraculous seed?

I need seed catalog suggestions for my mom. She just bought a few acres in New Mexico and is trying to find a worthwhile activity to occupy her time, so I suggested gardening. She's not online, so I need catalogs from companies from which I can request print catalogs to be sent to her. Personally, I'm interested in obscure/rare, heirloom, and medicinal plants. I need suggestions. Thanks!
