gotofail bug: articles about its minimal *real-world* effects?

I'm trying to help a relative who's in a full panic about computer security, brought on both by the alarmist mainstream reporting about the gotofail bug and by some coincidental hardware issues with her OS X machine. My reassurance isn't going to cut it this time -- is there somewhere online where she can read, in lay terms, that although the bug was severe in theory / in its implications, there's very little evidence of real-world exploits? How does remotely accessing somebody else's computer even work, anyway?

I just visited Facebook and it showed me the login screen with the email address of the guy I'm dating as the username. I was using FB earlier today, puttering around, sending messages and whatnot, and I haven't logged out of FB or restarted my Mac since. What's going on here? Am I paranoid to think that he (or someone else) could have remotely accessed my computer? [more inside]

Using office computers as security cameras

I have an open-plan office full of computers, about 75% Macs. We're considering putting in security cameras with a DVR. It seems to me that with all these computers (and a bunch of spares, at that) we could do this with what we have instead of paying a security company for dedicated hardware. What can I use to coordinate multiple webcams and do security-DVR-type stuff with them?

MacBook possessed by mystery entity

So...I'm thinking my Mac has a virus. I have a Mac OS X 10.5.8. I keep running out of hard drive space and deleting files constantly, so I got Disk Inventory X to see where my space is. Turns out there is 20 GB of 130,000 text files on my computer in a hidden file marked "private". I can't see this "private" folder from the file manager...only from Disk Inventory X. What do I do? OS X Home Security

Recently my bike and some other trivial stuff has been stolen off my porch. My bike was locked. :( I want to bait this thief with another bike (my broken one) and see who this jerk is. I have a mac and want to use a wireless webcam. Infrared is key since I believe he strikes at night. Is there an app for OS X and a compatible webcam for this situation? Ideally, it would not capture footage unless their is activity. -thanks

Why can't my Keychain.app settings work for both Safari and Camino?

I typically use Safari, and have my preferences set to store all of my passwords and user names in my Keychain.app. However when it starts acting up and giving me the spinning beach ball, I use Camino (v. 1.0.3.) When I try to log in to a website, it asks me for my user name and password - do I really have to fill in ALL those passwords and user names all over again? In other words, is there any way I can get Camino to access the passwords I saved using Safari? [more inside]

How can I make my Mac stop automatically connecting to my neighbors' networks?

Stupid Mac question - I have an AirPort card, but no base station. I was just visiting my cousin for the weekend, and they have one, and they did something to my computer to get it to connect to their wireless network (they have all sorts of security on it) and now I cannot have my AirPort card turned on without it automatically connecting to my neighbors' networks. I use an ethernet cable here at home, and I have my configuration set to look for the ethernet connection before a wireless one. I am at a total loss as to what to do to tell it to not automatically connect, short of leaving the card turned off unless I'm using it (and Apple's website is no help, because they assume that you do want to use it). Any ideas?
