I know there are a bunch of job search websites out there like Career Builder, Monster and Indeed and all that other crap. I was just wondering if there are any other good ones out there that may have popped up recently that may not be as well known as the usual sites.

Job search etiquette? So it has been three weeks since an interview, where the interviewer said it would take three or four weeks to make a decision. Is it wise/appropriate to send an email or make a call inquiring on the process? Does that look or sound desperate or keenly interested? [more inside]

My son has had difficulty getting a job because he has quit previous jobs, and had some personal issues.. Apparently this information has been passed around by previous employers. No one has called him back for any job interviews in three months. My suggestion to him is just hang in there and in the interim donate time as a volunteer for the red cross etc. Maybe this will help him get his feet in the door. What are some things he could volunteer doing?

Lawyer type looking for possible non-lawyer work needs advice. Okay, you-are-not-my-career-counselor, but I am appealing to the hive mind for advice. I am looking for a job and I need a fresh set of ideas. My fact pattern is a bit odd, and I feel like I’m treading the same ground over and over again in my current search, I want to expand it and don’t know which way to go. I have a Masters in Library Science. I received it a year and a bit back. In that time, I have been applying for a job in the public library sector as a reference librarian. I am not getting anywhere though I am following professional protocol in regards to a sound cover letter and solid resume. I got a 3.6 GPA in the program which is decent but not perfect. Decent, though. I have recently been broadening my search to places outside of my home state of Indiana (and Indianapolis). If you have any recommendations for the best job site areas to review on a regular basis, I am interested. [more inside]

I am starting a job search in earnest and I have been getting great response, thankfully. I am concerned, however, that something may slip through the cracks, as calls and contacts are coming in from all directions (e-mail, voicemail, others). Is there a low- or no-cost option to manage the contacts in one location (web site, computer, web server, etc.)? More details below... [more inside]

I am job hunting for an executive position after over 15 years as a self-employed consultant. Has anyone had experience with a Career Marketing & Outplacement service such as Allen and Associates? They claim to help you get directly to the decision-makers, and get you interviews and offers quicker. Is it worth the price?

Just applied last week for a job I'd really like that I believe I'm well-qualified for. It is in Phoenix AZ (with America West Airlines, if that info helps) and I am in Orem UT. What kind of follow up can I do to make sure that HR and whoever is really making hiring decisions at least notices me and knows I'm genuinely interested, without being annoying?

Okay, speaking of new jobs, I've got one ~

How do you research a potential employer, particularly if you don't know anyone who works there? After you learn all you can from their website, Googling their key players, stock analyst sites, and F*ed Company, where else do you look? I keep thinking there's gotta be a catch with my new potential employer, but nothing's turning up.
