What are your opinions on Portable Document Scanners for my Samsung Galaxy III phone?
I am new to the Smartphone crowd and find the descriptions of the scanners available in Google Play lacking. I need to be able to scan old newspapers and other print media of similar quality. I am hoping for sufficient resolution to convert PDF scans to Word in ReadIris Pro 12.

I have a lot of vintage paper. Photo albums, fashion magazines, random ephemera-- and a lot of it can't go in a flatbed scanner. I found an iPhone app called SmartScan that lets me photograph pages and corrects for tilt, but the resulting scans aren't as high-quality as my iPhone 5 is capable of. There are a ton of scanner apps out there, but I want the one that lets you capture the highest-res images. Any recommendations?

Dear collective intelligence that lives inside my web browser:
I'm looking for a good document scanning and organization solution for my business. Tax docs are getting lost. Bills are getting overlooked. It's a mess. I'm a digital person and sheets of paper just get totally ignored/lost.
I use Evernote a little bit, and they recommend the SnapScan line of scanners from Fujitsu. Which look pretty decent. Portable is nice.
Anyway, does anyone have any such experiences/recommendations they'd like to share.
Thanks!

March 2013 edition ! A non-profit that I volunteer with is looking to buy a new all-in-one machine to do its printing, scanning, copying, and faxing for its office. Non-profit uses windows. Initial budget is $300-500.
Other pluses:
Dual-sided printing
Most of the printing will be in b&w but will occasionally need to print in color (not for photos but for small logos on flyers, etc).
What should I recommend to them ? Laser ? Inkjet, no right ? They'd rather not since space is at a premium there.

My Dad has a collection of nearly 12,000 35mm slides, which I want to digitize. They've been out in the garage for years, and many of them are 30 to 50 years old. I'd like to make them look as good as possible after scanning. Early results are not what I'd like.

I'd like to buy a bulk (i.e., 20+ in a stack) slide scanner that will work with recent-model (usb/firewire/thunderbolt) macs. I see prices ranging from $1200 for used Braun scanners, to some real cheapies that look like a mistake waiting to happen for under $200. What's in the middle? Most of the used Nikons in the $500 range on ebay are SCSI only; I'd love something that works with current hardware (i.e., NOT SCSI) and has a pretty wide gamut - something approximating the RAW quality I get from my digital SLR. Is there hope for me?

I am looking for a Fast Flatbed SMTP/Exchange integrated Scanner. It should work as a stand-alone device i.e. networkable (so not attached to a PC) and email scans ('scan to email' so digital copies of receipts can go into an expense system) and be easy to use. It should have SMTP/Exchange/AD integration completely so it should be possible to Email to multiple email addressess if necessary. Money is not an issue but it should have fast and responsive scan times. I am really looking for recommendations especially from people with experience with enterprise ready Flatbed scanners in SME business environments. Something sturdy and reliable. Thank you.

I have been asked to find a receipts scanner. It should be able to work preferably as a stand-alone device (so not attached to a PC) and email receipts to an email address ('scan to email' so digital copies of receipts can go into an expense system), cost a few hundred dollars and be easy to use. So far I am not having much luck - there is the Neat scanners (www.neat.com) but they seem to require a Mac.

I'm planning to buy a new flatbed scanner, and the decision about which one to get is going to hinge on some fairly picky details that don't usually show up in "consumer"-level reviews. If you have hands-on experience with flatbed scanners with
larger-than-8.5"x11" scanbeds, preferably models that are still available at retail, can you help?

I'm looking for a home office solution for B&W laser printing, scanning, copying (in approximately that order of importance, with the ability to fax coming in a very distant fourth). I'd like to spend less than $350. Network connectivity nice but not critical. Pony optional. Suggestions? Am I doomed to a choice between an endless string of near-disposable crappy all-in-one desktop models and far-out-of-budget business class maintenance contract solutions?

Having had 3 all-in-one printer/fax/scanner units go kerblooey after less than a year of moderate use each, I'm thinking I need to go to separate printer and scanner units. (I don't need the fax function; this is done directly from the computers.) Looking for recommendations for color / black-and-white printers, and scanners, that you've found to be robust and reliable. Please cite brands and models. Thanks!
