FoodFilter: A dear friend of mine just moved to the Bay Area. He happens to be absolutely crazy about Reubens. But where can he get one now that he has moved?! Bay Area MeFites—can you hook a Reuben connoisseur up with your favorite spots for corned beef in the Bay? San Francisco preferred, but he works in Palo Alto.
Hi! I've used both The Garage (recently) and John Gardiner Automotive (in the past, very $$ and can be slow) for repairs to my '95 300zx twin turbo, but I need some suspension work and am trying to find a new mechanic because The Garage wants to charge me nearly double the online price for parts and won't let me supply the parts myself. Also, I need to replace the antenna mast, which is a widely available $45 part, but they're saying they can get only the full motor for $500 from their distributor. [more inside]
My family likes to do Christmas-time together, and a critical mass of us are in the Bay Area now. Where should we go and what should we do within a few hours of here? [more inside]
I have to move some stuff to a new (furnished) place on short notice, but I'm thinking that hiring movers would be overkill. Can't drive, so can't rent a truck, and my friend who could do it has to go out of town on the move-in date - what other options do I have? [more inside]
I have just moved to San Francisco after living overseas for 4 years. My old US license (Massachusetts) expired two weeks ago. I am required to get a CA license within 10 days, and I need a US license anyway for things like Scoot, which I'll be relying on for commuting. Please reassure me that I will be able to prove residency despite a "soft landing" housing situation meaning I don't have a lot of the traditional documentation. [more inside]
Can anyone recommend a great divorce lawyer in the San Francisco Bay Area? (The couple involved have been married for 20 years and have no children, if that matters.)
Where should we go to have Beef Wellington? Accessibility to North Oakland (walking, BART, and driving are all viable options) and price are factors.

In a few weeks I'm going to be in San Francisco for about 12 hours for a connecting flight. It will be just after a long no-shave camping trip and just before a set of client meetings that I have to be presentable for. At the moment I'm thinking about keeping the beard, so I'm looking for recommendations on shops (and specific barbers) who can take something from "just walked down from a mountain" scraggly to presentable without taking it all off. Flexible on location - anywhere from San Francisco down to Palo Alto. [more inside]
Due to some longstanding issues with sleep and fatigue that I think could be related to sleep apnea, I'd like to have a sleep study. What are the differences/pros and cons of doing that at a hospital versus an unaffiliated "sleep center"? Experiences/thoughts on specific places to go in the SF Bay Area? [more inside]

I'm a relentless optimizer and usually do tons of research before making decisions, but I am shuddering at the thought of wading through endless legal and sales verbiage on insurance sites, or even worse, of enduring verbal sales pitches from agents/brokers. Please help me short-cut through the tedium of getting this done. A few extra details inside. [more inside]

Hello Metafilter. Please help me identify quality temp/staffing agencies in the San Francisco Bay Area. I am a non-technical worker who is especially interested in non-profit placements but am extremely open-minded. [more inside]
So my original Christmas day plans fell through, and I live 5000 miles from most of my family. I do have a brother who recently moved to San Jose, though, and we'd like to spend the day doing something together. We're both wary of bringing each other to friends houses (we're different kinds of people, move in different circles, etc) - so we'd like to try and find something fun and novel that we can go and do, just the 2 of us (though if it were something social in the sense that we may meet a bunch of strangers doing this thing, then that would be cool). Anybody have any ideas? We're also British. I don't know if this information will help you, but hey, there you have it. 2 British guys in San Francisco with no idea what to do on Xmas day. Hive mind, halp!
In the next few weeks I have to make a decision about exercising some incentive stock options. I have a general idea of the tax implications of this event, but I would like to meet with an accountant who can run me through the exact numbers. [more inside]
I have a job offer in San Francisco. I understand that renting there is more difficult than it's ever been. My requirements are: I want to be able to walk + bike + BART/Bus to work, which is around South Beach. Other than that, I am cool with East Bay, South, whatever. I could swing $2500-ish a month, but that is an upper boundary. Tell me about neighborhoods, tell me whether there exist "apartment headhunters" who could reliably do this for me, school me thoroughly. Thank you in advance.
I need to clean an expensive white Oscar de la Renta skirt suit that's lined in taffeta/tulle; it has some faint smudging here and there on the thick reverse silk-satin fabric. I wouldn't trust a normal dry cleaner with this, and don't know where else to go. Alex's seems exorbitant and gets awful reviews; Peninou seems doubtful as well; and I read somewhere about Crystal in San Mateo but don't have much to go on. Does anyone know a cleaner (preferably in San Francisco, but I can drive elsewhere if necessary) who works with designer items, maybe wedding gowns, who would know how to work with tricky white silk fabric? Many thanks!
I'm looking for a possibly regular volunteer opportunity in the east bay (oakland or berkeley) working with seniors, homeless, or needy. Tell me about the volunteer org you know of that does great work and is a great place! Some random criteria: [more inside]
Speed-dating in San Francisco / Bay Area: Do you know of an active/reliable/recommendation-worthy speed-dating event in San Francisco or North Bay? More specifically, I'm man-seeking-woman and looking for an event demographically strong in 20s & 30s childless professional women. It would be nice if it was an environment where we didn't need to raise our voices to be heard, but the people are the important thing. (My speed-dating experience so far has been arriving to discover that my friend and I were the only people who showed up for it.) [more inside]
