After years of careful consideration, I've finally decided to get a tattoo. I know what I want to get, but I don't have a specific design, and I don't know which tattoo parlor to go to. How do I find these things? I live in SF, but would be willing to travel for a really, really good artist. [more inside]

Say I'm in the SF downtown area or thereabouts (I'm visiting, my geography is vague), what might be a nice local item to take to a dinner party as a gift (on a modest budget)? it could be dessert, it could be some kind of liquor, it could be some other snacks... thanks for any suggestions!

A friend's mother is coming to town and we're trying to brain storm some beautiful places to take her. The thing is she has limited mobility and tends to get around in a wheel chair. When I think of places to take people it usually involves a hike to something like the Sutro Baths or China Beach, etc, etc.
Would love to hear some thoughts!

SF renter here. The bathroom in my apartment has a window but no fan. The window opens onto an outdoor space that gets little breeze. Recently in the humid weather, my shower has began to smell like mildew even though I've scrubbed it down. This SFGate article
says SF bathrooms with showers or tubs are required to have a mechanical fan. Is this only for newly-built houses or does this apply to all homes? [more inside]

A number of coworking companies have popped up in our city and I am trying to find one that feels right to work in. The first two I visited were OK but had a bit too much of a sales/business vibe for me. In contrast the Makeshift Society has an art school feel to it that feels refreshing. I'm not the artiest person in the world, but I'm wondering what other coworking places might have an interesting alternative feeling. [more inside]

So my original Christmas day plans fell through, and I live 5000 miles from most of my family. I do have a brother who recently moved to San Jose, though, and we'd like to spend the day doing something together. We're both wary of bringing each other to friends houses (we're different kinds of people, move in different circles, etc) - so we'd like to try and find something fun and novel that we can go and do, just the 2 of us (though if it were something social in the sense that we may meet a bunch of strangers doing this thing, then that would be cool).
Anybody have any ideas?
We're also British. I don't know if this information will help you, but hey, there you have it. 2 British guys in San Francisco with no idea what to do on Xmas day. Hive mind, halp!

I have a job offer in San Francisco. I understand that renting there is more difficult than it's ever been. My requirements are: I want to be able to walk + bike + BART/Bus to work, which is around South Beach.
Other than that, I am cool with East Bay, South, whatever. I could swing $2500-ish a month, but that is an upper boundary.
Tell me about neighborhoods, tell me whether there exist "apartment headhunters" who could reliably do this for me, school me thoroughly.
Thank you in advance.

My wife and I usually visit our families on the east coast for Christmas. This year, however, my wife will be 35 weeks pregnant, so we're staying home in San Francisco. We'd like to find some festive Christmas events in San Francisco to entertain us that are local and compatible with being pregnant (so Santacon is probably out). Bonus points for events that are uniquely San Franciscan.

I need to clean an expensive white Oscar de la Renta skirt suit that's lined in taffeta/tulle; it has some faint smudging here and there on the thick reverse silk-satin fabric. I wouldn't trust a normal dry cleaner with this, and don't know where else to go. Alex's seems exorbitant and gets awful reviews; Peninou seems doubtful as well; and I read somewhere about Crystal in San Mateo but don't have much to go on.
Does anyone know a cleaner (preferably in San Francisco, but I can drive elsewhere if necessary) who works with designer items, maybe wedding gowns, who would know how to work with tricky white silk fabric? Many thanks!

I live in a rent-controlled apartment in San Francisco, and have been enduring some landlord harassment of various types. (I'm paying a fortune, but rents are so high right now that even what I pay is well below market.) For my peace of mind, I'd like to install some sort of reasonably priced device to ensure that no one's entering my apartment when I'm not there. More specifically, I'm man-seeking-woman and looking for an event demographically strong in 20s & 30s childless professional women. It would be nice if it was an environment where we didn't need to raise our voices to be heard, but the people are the important thing. The burn is about to begin, and San Francisco and the East Bay are about to vacate. I, however, have been left behind, holding down the fort at work while others party in the desert. Things aren't all bad though, as being in SF during Burning Man comes with some advantages - like being able to actually find parking or not having to wait as long for a cone at Humphrey Slocombe. What are other things to do in the Bay Area that are busy much of the year but not as crowded during Burning Man?

I'm travelling to San Francisco today for a conference. It'll be my first time there, and I'd like to take public transit from the airport to my hotel
- the Fairmont, on Mason St. It looks like I can take a train (BART?) from the airport to Powell St., Montgomery St., or Embarcadero, and walk from there. Is it reasonable to ride the train at 7 PM with a largeish rolling carryon bag and a backpack? Which station should I walk from, if I don't mind a bit of a walk but want to avoid overly-sketchy areas?

My younger brother, a rising senior in high school, will be visiting me in the Bay Area next week. We will have 2-3 days to spend in the city (really, any place accessible by Caltrain). I need an itinerary of fun places to check out. The main criteria are that anything you recommend should be easily accessible by public transport, not too remote, and also immediately spectacular for teenage boys and other people without particular interests. Yes: museums with minimal reading, weird architecture, cable cars, great views, robots and video games, and so on. No: major league sports, "funky boutiques," "must-eat restaurants." The rest of our week will be mostly spent outdoors, so indoors is OK. Thanks for suggestions!

We just decided to get married in San Francisco, in about a month. Do you have any recommendations for a wedding planner who will help with venues and food? We are thinking of an outdoor ceremony followed by a dinner at a restaurant or catered venue. Or a boat cruise with decent food. We don't need flowers, music, dancing, invitations, decorations or seating arrangements. We basically need someone to suggest an available venue (and get the requisite permits if needed) and organize the food reception afterwards. This will be for about 20-30 guests. Any suggestions on a specific location, or for a wedding planner? The goal is something like a cross between eloping and a wedding. Fast and fun! [more inside]
