I've been thrown into a project to help find local (SF Bay Area) recruiting agencies that focus on filling marketing positions. I would really appreciate any and all referrals based on successful experience in filling an open marketing position.
I have just moved to San Francisco after living overseas for 4 years. My old US license (Massachusetts) expired two weeks ago. I am required to get a CA license within 10 days, and I need a US license anyway for things like Scoot, which I'll be relying on for commuting. Please reassure me that I will be able to prove residency despite a "soft landing" housing situation meaning I don't have a lot of the traditional documentation. [more inside]
I'm moving to San Francisco and would like to find some volunteer work which is worthwhile, but is not nurturing/caring based. [more inside]
Asking for a friend: Vacationing in Berkeley and will fly straight from here to a job interview in another city. I don't have a suit with me, interview is a surprise (yay). Need to procure a freshly tailored new (man's) suit between right now and Friday afternoon. Also, budget is a thing. I know it can't be good, cheap and quick, so I'll sacrifice good. Where do I go? (Must be BART/AC Transit accessible.)
Hi! We're going to be in San Fran this weekend and are looking for somewhere awesome to eat in Chinatown. Where do you recommend? But there's some considerations... [more inside]
What would you see in California if you were starting out in LA and had a car and 7 days to travel, only caveat being that you need to be in San Diego on the morning of the 8th day? We're going to LA for a family wedding in August. Taking an extra week afterwards to travel around and see as much of California as possible. However, we have to prioritize as we only have 7 days. Flying out from San Diego on the 8th day. We will have a rental car and we're interested in seeing as much as possible, as it will be my first time in California. Driving a lot is not a problem; we love roadtrips, and both of us drive so we can take turns. Please help us plan an itinerary! [more inside]
We've got 48 hours in San Francisco in mid May. It's not our first trip, but, it's been a while. What are your recommendations for fun/cultural things to do that aren't super touristy. How would you spend a weekend in S.F. with your wife and friends. [more inside]
I've been looking at cost of living in different areas around the country and I just cannot fathom how or why anyone lives within a hundred miles of San Francisco. How does this actually work? [more inside]
Me, my elementary-age kid and spouse will be traveling to San Diego in several weeks. Things I would love to see there: fun street art (eg - a giant Mario on a brick wall, murals, pop art, etc) cool outdoor sculptures that kids are allowed to climb on, etc. [more inside]
Hi folks, I am helping organize a conference for about 1000 attendees in San Francisco next year. I have only been to an event at Fort Mason Center in the past. Any good venue recommendations? It would help if you can explain why you like it. Also looking for local production, caterer, etc...vendors if you know of any good folks. Thanks!
I have a long layover in SFO next week just before a very long trans-Pacific flight. Of the time I have there, I have about 5 hours total I can spend in the city (after transport each way). I have two goals: tire out my 1-year-old, and meet up with some friends for drinks and snacks. Can you help me plan where to go for these? [more inside]
Exactly as it says on the tin: the Animal Care & Control (city shelter) or the SPCA -- which offers a better experience for a volunteer, particularly one who wants to work with kitties? [more inside]
I'd like to surprise my partner with a trip SOMEWHERE for ~3-5 days from either San Francisco or Washington DC. The annoying part is his birthday is the day after Christmas. [more inside]
I'm itching for change and would like to move to preferably in the next year. I'm looking into San Francisco, Los Angeles, New York City and Portland. I've moved before and to different states/ cities, but this would be the biggest move ever in my life. I need advice on how to find jobs out of state, finding a place to live, and how to get all my junk across country as well. Is it easier to just save up a bunch and move and find a job when I get settled or should I try to get a job and then use that opportunity to move? Any tips or advice would be appreciated. I live down in Monterey but I have this Thursday off randomly and I'm thinking of doing the following: Driving up to Ft Funston with my bike, parking at Funston, riding to the Golden Gate Visitor's center, doing the SF Public Library walking tour and then riding back to Funston. Is this an insane idea or doable? [more inside]

Is there a route alongside the San Francisco marathon I could take that would allow me to get back to the designated viewing locations? Bikes are not allowed in the race of course, but I'd like to know if anyone else has tried to follow the race and support a participant by riding ahead and cheering them on at each viewing location. I would really appreciate recommendations for a counselor for my daughter. She is in the last stages of a long and demanding academic degree. She is brilliant but has always had some difficulty in reading social cues and tends to alienate people with her abruptness. More inside. [more inside]

In New York I often used OhMyRockness for a comprehensive list of upcoming indie/rock/comedy shows at different venues, but I can't seem to find a similar site for San Francisco. I end up going to each individual venue website (The Independent, The Fillmore, The Chapel, Slim's, etc) for info but this isn't ideal. Is there a site I just don't know about? Thanks!

Looking for an event space in San Francisco for Thursday, November 21st. I'm looking for something that can fit 60-80 people. It's for a developer-focused meetup event. Have you been to a good event in SF? Do you know of a good space?
I'm trying to find more about a pair of jumping stilts that I saw at maker faire (2013 Bay Area) that are substantially different form any I've seen online. Does anyone know anything about these - they had a glossy metallic-red (almost Ironman-like?) nearly-knee-high boot instead of the usual clamps, and the spring power seemed to come from a lot of black rubber cording bunched in the rear as if a calf muscle (I don't recall the mechanism, but bungie cording suggests it's different to the blade-spring traditional design). Are these something that can be purchased, or were they a maker-crafted one-off?
I need to buy several servers with 24+ cores and 100+ GB of RAM, as well as storage for slightly over 100TB of data. Where (and how) should I be looking? [more inside]
I'm a late 20's native New Yorker - grew up in Brooklyn and lived in Manhattan and Brooklyn for most of my life. I've lived in San Diego for the past year. Lovely place, but it's not for me. Got a job offer in San Francisco and I'm excited and ready to make the move. I've always loved my visits to San Francisco and its walkability, culture, food, shopping, and diversity have always made it comparable to New York in my mind. I love New York, but I don't want to move to San Francisco expecting it will be just like living in New York. I've already noticed some big differences that I embrace (and some I dislike.) People who have lived in both cities (especially as a young person): what are some of the differences you found between life in New York and life in San Francisco? Thanks!
It's time for me to consider strabismus surgery for myself and I'm hoping that someone here has experience doing this with an opthamologist in or around San Jose. A little help?

I'm an ASW in Southern California and I'm relocating to San Francisco. What are some good resources/agencies for finding social work jobs in SF? I've used Indeed, Craigslist, and the UCSF website, but I don't know of enough agencies/hospitals up there to know which websites to check for job openings. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!
What are your favorite neighborhoods in San Francisco for living, working, experiencing the city and SF life? And any suggestions for cool, interesting, off-beat housing options aside from standard corporate housing for temporary but longish term relocation? (1 year) [more inside]

I'm interested in a mini tattoo and am looking for recommendations for an exceptional artist. It's a hard thing to do (Oliver Peck is obviously the best) so any thoughts you have for anyone you know about (ideally in the Boston or San Francisco area) would be appreciated.
My partner and I are headed to San Antonio at the end of July so that he can go to a conference and I can visit Texas for the first time. We like cities, and nature, and are especially interested in how people organize and live together in whatever communities they've got (ie. social & political history and sociology). Other happy holiday finds have included biking Montreal's The Main and La Chine Canal, the National Museum of Mexican Art in Chicago and taking 3 kinds of trains to get to a hilltop overlooking Vienna.
