Help me find this delicious dressing.

Japanese Salad Dressing - where can I get more of this delicious dressing? http://beniotome.co.jp/shopping - This is the website (and the only English writing) on the bottle. It's the lighter colored one that I tried and loved.

I tried it once and it was a friend of a friend of a friend whose relative brought some from Japan - there's no way for me to ask them where they got it or to get more from them.
1. Where can I buy some? I don't speak Japanese so ordering from that website wouldn't work. I also haven't seen it at Mitsuwa or any of the other Asian stores near me (NJ/NYC area). Ordering online OK too, if it's in English.
2. What kind of dressing is it and are there alternative brands very similar that are available in major Asian stores near me? What do the bottles look like if they're not in English?
3. How can I re-create this myself? I love making dressings instead of buying them, so while buying it would be great, if anyone knows what is in there that makes it so amazing and unique tasting, it would be awesome to be able to make such deliciousness myself. All I can pick out in it is sesame, but no sesame dressing I've made came close, and no sesame dressing I ever bought tasted similar. There's something very different about this dressing.

I will be so incredibly happy if someone can help me out with this!

25 and TRYING to COOK

I'm 25 and starting to cook - What? Where do I get it? Why? I'm 25 and me and my roommate are just starting to cook on our own. Our add water and microwave days of college are over. Plus we like to have friends over sometimes, and ordering a pizza makes for a lame dinner party.

Basically this just feels like something we should be doing, it's fun to try new things and in general, it saves money!

Some things I always liked growing up:

• Big Mac 'N Cheese fan
• Anything with Cool Whip...
• Mom makes this breaded chicken that got baked...
• Love salads, been trying to broaden my horizon in terms of dressing

I also always struggle with whether to buy the brand names or the store labels. Does it make a difference?!?! What do you guys buy and why?

Anyway.... I'd love to hear your ideas. I'd love some new easy recipes, but I'm really curious about the art of grocery shopping too. Discount store? Upscale store?

Thanks in advance!! If your ideas are really good, I'll have you all over for dinner. ;)

Deadly Dressing?!?!

Can I Eat It Filter: homemade salad dressing edition In an effort to not eat so much HFCS, I bought a salad dressing mixer similar to this. The first time I used it, I put it in the fridge after mixing and, of course, the oil solidified. The next time, I just left it on the counter, but Mr. Arkham was concerned. The dressing only contained olive oil, soy sauce, rice vinegar, spices, and garlic. Think it's safe to keep out of the fridge? For how long? Will the garlic go bad? (I'm assuming any creamy dressings would need to be refrigerated, of course.)

And if commercial dressings are full of preservatives, why are they all "refrigerate after opening"?

Vegetarian Caesar salad dressing

Can anyone recommend a good bottled vegetarian Caesar salad dressing? I used to love Caesar salad but every time I try a new anchovy-free version, it ends up in the trash. Making my own is, unfortunately, not a realistic option, as my culinary skills are on a level with a three year old's.

Don't eat it, Ted?

What's the deal with my salad dressing? It is frothing like a rabid dog! At dinner tonight I opened a brand new bottle of salad dressing (Girard's Greek Feta Vinaigrette, expiration date 2/16/08) and noticed a slight hiss, as if there were a partial vacuum in the jar, perhaps from being chilled. We proceed to eat, and when I go to get seconds on the salad I notice that the salad dressing is bubbling away, like an opened soda or beer only in slow motion. This continued for several minutes, until I replaced the cap and put it in the fridge saying "I think we should hold off on this until we know whats going on." It is as if something had fermented; I assume the gas was CO2 but don't know. One concern was botulism, but the vinegar in the dressing makes that pretty unlikely. I plan to call the company, but they do not have a 24 hour customer service number. We didn't notice any obvious off tastes, but I have not had this particular dressing before so might not notice an unusual taste. It has been a couple of hours and we both feel fine, so it seems safe, but it was still pretty strange. Any ideas what it could be? If I can find out anything from another source I will post an update. Thanks in advance.

Help me start eating more salad!

Give me some salad dressing recipes! I am moving into my own apartment after living with my parents for the summer. I want to get back in the habit of cooking, and cook more than ever before!

I want to start eating a lot of salads, but I don't want to use store bought dressings. Can anyone give me good salad dressing recipes?

Two salads I absolutely love are Famous Dave's BBQ chicken salad, I believe it's a honey barbecue dressing of some sort, but it's a lot thinner than barbecue sauce.
The other dressing I'd love to make is the kind that is used at Panera on their Asian Sesame Chicken salad. It's a vinegarette of some kind, it's on the sweeter side.

I think I'd generally like to make dressings with an oil and vinegar base, but I'm open to other delicious options as well.
Also, if you can let me know if it goes well with another type of food, such as Italian or something.

Help me re-create my ex's über secret family salad dressing recipe.

Contacting the ex is completely out of the question, but holy mother of croutons her salad dressing was fantastic. She is of Russian-German descent and grew up in the greater Chicago area. Her German grandmother gave her the recipe, supposedly. I have researched German salad dressing to no avail. While telling the truth was not her strength, I cannot find the recipe anywhere, which lends credence to the family recipe story. I have tried and failed to re-create it on my own, many times.

The ingredients that I know are in the salad dressing are: aromat (which knowing now that it is MSG, means I will probably leave it out, but might hint at when the recipe was originally created) green onions, tarragon vinegar, one raw egg, fresh cracked black pepper, salt, sugar. I would guess there is garlic in it too, but I am not certain.

After reading this post, I'm pretty sure it's not this. I don't remember dill being a strong flavor in the dressing. I've experimented with adding various spices and using olive oil/vegetable oil and cannot get it right. It looks a bit like Caesar salad dressing, but darker in color and less viscous. Does this sound familiar to anyone?

Thanks in advance.
