Business correspondence via SMS

The management software my company uses recently added the ability to send messages via SMS to our clientele. We've signed up and it's tested well, but we're not clear on the legality of sending business correspondence messages (no marketing, simply "Your rent is due, please call # or pay online @ oursite.com/pay") without the client expressly opting in for SMS messaging. Do we need to have everyone opt-in or are non-marketing messages for the purpose of communicating legitimate business notices exempt? [more inside]

How much more secure are older low tech phones than the more modern ones

Are older phones or phones designed for poorer countries any less susceptible to spying than the latest Apple, Google or Android models? I've read about CEO's looking for the very old brick phones because since they don't have the sophisticated technology of the modern phones, they're harder to monitor or track. I understand the phones w/o apps are clearly more secure regarding third parties because they aren't sending personal data to companies. But what the government and everything else; voice, location via cell towers, SMS; the very basics.

Why can't I get group texts originating from iPhones?

Hi, my band members have iPhones. Since last month, I am not getting group texts from the other members. They can see my texts sent to the group, but their responses never reach my phone. Texts to and from the individual members work just fine, but I never get any of their texts to the group. Any idea what causes this and what can be done to fix it? I don't know the models they are using. I'm using a Blackberry Curve. The internet is filled with questions about this problem, but not specifically related to group texts, which are the only problem for me. The other issues are apparently related to iMessage.

How was a fake SMS message sent from an iPhone? Was it hacked?

SMS to phone call. Is a call center the best option?

I'm looking for a service or program that will convert a SMS/text message into a phone call, approximately 100 times per month. Matching two spreadsheets via one matching column

I have two separate marketing lists on spreadsheets, both of which were originally opt-in, but have been residing on different systems - System A for email marketing and System B for SMS marketing. List A has the users' email addresses, cellphone numbers and names. List B just has the users' cellphone numbers (plus a column called "unsubscribed" for those people who. I want to combine the two spreadsheets to create one spreadsheet while keeping the column called "unsubscribed" so I know which people to keep permanently removed. Mass text alerts - what are my options?

I'm looking for way to send SMS alerts to a large group - anywhere from 1,000 to 5,000 subscribers. This is for a small town that needs to alert citizens of public works issues like water outages or boil water notices. Can we do this ourselves? What do we need? If not, what is the most cost effective method (provider)? These would not be frequent, regular alerts.

The Innocents Abroad: Text Messaging+Parents Overseas=Disaster Incoming?

My elderly parents are currently traveling in Europe (Greece, specifically) accompanied by their first smartphones (which are on a T-Mobile family plan that I pay for). Before they left, I repeatedly emphasized that they needed to install new microsims from a Greek telecom before they'd be able to use voice, messaging and data in Greece. I did not go into the concept of international roaming (primarily because it's extremely expensive, they would find it confusing, and I don't want them to use it). They said they'd get new microsims when they arrived. However, my mother's text messages from Greece still look like they're being sent from her U.S. number. [more inside]

Why does this phone need more cowb3ll?

Does anyone know what is going on with the text messages shown in this image? Mrs. fireoyster's iPhone keeps getting these texts, starting about a month ago, from a number that none of us knows. They started out once every few days and are now up to two or three per day, usually eight to twelve hours apart. The string "DT" always begins each text and the string "-cowb3ll" always ends each text. Searching on the Internet has yielded no results. She does use iMessage and it functions properly. Her current number was ported from my account on Twilio; could this have something to do with it?

Extracting/Importing iPhone SMS/MMS Data

So, I want to restore my iPhone to a backup that's about 1 month old. However, I don't want to lose all of the SMS/MMS and Contacts data that I've accumulated in the meantime. I wish to cut the cord on my cordless.

I have some questions regarding MMS charges and the Facebook Messenger app. Between it and the upcoming iOS messages in iOS5 I would like to completely eliminate my texting plan (in light of AT&T's total dick move of eliminating the $10/month text plan-which I was going to move to after iOS5). I figure between Facebook and my iphone-owning friends, family, and girlfriend I should be 99.9% covered and I'll eat the per-text charge on the 2-3 a month that may slip by. I just cant seem to find a clear answer on one point, though: [more inside]
