Helping help a friend find an old blog. Here are the details she remembers: A guy. Blogging around 2000 - 2001. Posts were often confessional, inimate accounts of his torturous relationship with his girlfriend, who had some sort of eating disorder. He lived in San Francisco much of this time, but eventually moved to (possibly) NYC. The blog may have been called the Grey Square or the Grey Box. Not much to go on, but maybe it will ring a bell with someone?
I need a white tuxedo, cheap (low-quality is fine), and fast. In LA or SF (needs to be faster if in SF). Ideally get it bought and altered within a week. Does anyone have any leads?

I'm trying to find a science-fiction story that I saw on a webpage once. I can only remember a few odd miscellaneous details: the author was gay and French, he had a page about his graduate-level math research, and I think his name may have had "David" or "Simon" in it. His webpage was in both English and French, and I'm pretty sure it talked about Alan Turing on part of it. The story itself was based on the premise that the ancient Greeks discovered space travel 2000 years ago and spread throughout the galaxy, creating a galaxy-wide Hellenic-style empire. I believe only the first chapter of the story was written, which was mostly the Earthling protagonist discovering the empire, exposition about its history and politics, and him having sex with some Greek-god-lookalike guy from the Empire. So I've lived in beautiful San Francisco, California since 2005, but I've recently started a job down in Sunnyvale. I can take Caltrain down there, but it's an hour's trip plus half an hour on either end to get from home/work to the Caltrain station in question. This is not sustainable, so I'd like to move south. I'm 31, single, and a city boy from way back, so moving to The Suburbs gives me pause. Also, I sold the only car I've ever owned back in '05 shortly after I moved here. So I have two questions: [more inside]

I've been reading the Vorkosigan Saga, and I'm really enjoying the political-intrigue aspect. They've reminded me of a book I read at least five years ago, but I can only half-remember it...hoping the bits and pieces are familiar to someone here: - a human male protagonist who is a diplomat or attache or moves or works in that area (at least during the events of the novel) - a politically important event (negotiations?) involving humans and aliens, on earth or another planet (not in space) - a friend/colleague of the protagonist is a non-human who I believe is a floating sphere (which I think was on the cover and looked sort of pokemon-logo-ish) - a poetry contest(?) which the sphere person is interested in, and the poetry was a particularly complex form, possibly (or compared to) haiku or tanka (possibly knowing about or composing this type of poetry was necessary or useful in the diplomatic mission) Any bells?
