Each year our company sends our customers holiday gifts as well as a calendar (we use employee photos for the calendar). The gift we want to send this year is a 7-inch digital photo frame. We'd like to pre-load an SD card with past calendar photos - for display on the photo frame. I would like to purchase (at lowest cost of course) 200-300 1 GB SD cards. I prefer no retail packaging (we'd just have to spend time tearing into that stupid theft-proof plastic). [more inside]

I need a free file manager for Windows XP that will allow me to specify the order in which files are physically written to an SD Card. Specifically - if i have a folder of music containing, say, 32 tracks of varying length, I want to be able to instruct the file manager to complete the copying of them over according to something like the file name (if each track title was prefixed by the track number) - The order in which Windows Explorer seems to complete copying seems to be based purely on how long each track takes - i.e. shorter tracks copy over sooner than longer tracks due to their file size. Any recommendations of free options gratefully received. [more inside]

I'm in Cambodia and just tried to upload my photos off my SD card, which I've done before. This time, the computer wouldn't show any folders, although the photos do show up on the camera - they're there! It does show there's a gig of material on there. [more inside]

Is there a free and/or clever way to find out if the SD card plugged into my laptop is faster or slower than the laptop hard drive regarding read/write operations? I am running Windows Vista Home Premium. I'm wondering, for example, if the SD card would be a better scratch disk for Photoshop, and other apps that require non-RAM swap/scratch space. (I'm not intending to use ReadyBoost.)

I'm thinking of buying a camcorder. My requirements are slightly unusual: I would like one that does all the "bells and whistles" stuff (image stabilisation, auto light balance, H.264 compression etc). But I also want to be able to turn off all the clever stuff and access the "raw" video. Any recommendations? Hard disk/SD recording is a must, high definition would be good.

Someone stole my Canon SD400 the other day and I need to replace it. Preferably with another Canon, but their current line-up is bewildering with 7 current SD models. Can anyone help me sort it out? I had no major problems with the SD400.

Does this camera exist? If not, what comes closest? Slim, lightweight digital camera that 1) can be set to do exposure bracketing of every shot, 2) uses either full-size SD or CF cards [not Memory Sticks], and 3) has an internal battery that charges via a standard mini-USB jack.

I want to take a camcorder that writes to an SD card on a trip where I won't have computer access. What small, light, and cheap portable-hard-drive type device will allow me to download images from the card so that I don't have to buy lots of expensive SD cards? The camcorder is a Sanyo xacti C5 and includes a docking station with USB port.

I recently purchased a Kingston 256MB SD card for my Tungsten-E. File transfer speeds are incredibly slow: it takes 15-30 minutes to transfer one measly MP3. I bought and installed a USB-2 card on my computer, but it doesn't seem to help much. Is this normal? Is there a problem with the SD-card or the handheld? Would buying a dedicated card reader help?

About to get a new Palm, and I'm wondering about Secure Digital (SD) cards. Now, word on the street is that different cards perform at different speeds, and that SanDisk is the slowest of them. Those of you who use SD cards with your handhelds and cameras, what brands and capacities have worked best for you? (As of now, I have my eye on a Lexar 256MB, maybe a 512MB.)

As I've mentioned here before, I have a Pocket PC that uses SD cards. I've had the device for about 18 months and it is in good shape. I'm at a crossroads now where I'm not sure if I should continue to invest in SD accessories, or simply wait for the compact memory arena to settle down. Anyone with some insight into the future of Pocket PC's, SD, and its competition? [more inside]
